What's new

Post your traditions!

All,

Since as long as I can remember, I've had a tradition of relaxing Sunday night, sipping my favorite Scotch. It is a great, peaceful way to start my week.

As I write this, I'm sipping a great, dark colored Macallan 12yr.

What are your traditions WRT your favorite beverage? I'm dying to hear!

A nice mild cup of coffee and either read a book or work on the one I'm writing, I either stimulate my imagination or let it out.

Used to be a single beer for me (normally some kind of micro brew). I don't drink much anymore. Now I'm more likely to go the coffee or hot cocoa route with a good book in my Lazy Boy recliner.

A nice red wine when I pick up my National guitar for a bit of sliding action....
A cold draft beer every once and a while with friends after a sweaty day at work...
A single malt scotch when after we hike in the mountains around Kyoto and stop in at my buddy's Dad's place...
And a chamomile tea in the morning before cycling off to work...

...to name but a few.

I always play Alice's Restaurant Masacree on Thanksgiving day and "It's Johnnys Birthday" from George Harrisons "All Things Must Pass" album on my birthday.

Drives my wife and mostly my kids nuts!

A mug of tea in bed every morning, while I come to.

While at home I get one for my wife, and we both lie and wait for the kids to wake up and the day to begin.

When I'm away at work, I wake up half an hour early and take my tea back to bed and continue with the tradition.

Tea every morning, bourbon neat (just a short one) most nights. Ah, simple pleasures.

I work for Peet's, so coffee and tea have become simply automatic for me, and I don't, say, go the Yi Xing pot(s) of oolong route as often as I used to. At one time I was a fanatic, but now I'm happy with any old bag of tea and time spent with the wife while we enjoy our cups.

Traditions

as long as I can remember Jack Daniels was always part of our Thanksgiving. I am second generation Irish American on my Mothers side and we would always go to my Grandparents in Boston for Thanksgiving. My Dad is from West Virginia, so I think the JD was my Grandfathers way of accepting him into the family.

Anyways, I cook the turkey for my family now and I get up at about 5:00 to start it and as soon as the bird goes in the oven the JD goes in the glass :001_smile

I don't know if this is a tradition as such, but every time I change the strings on my guitar, I try to make it special. I make sure I've got good coffee and tobacco and take about 45-60 mins. I microwash and dry the fretboard before putting the strings on, then spend as long as I need getting them to tension and bedded in. Can't put it down or do anything else till I've got it singing, which means I usually have to adjust the intonation etc. I find it therapeutic, take it really slow and use up the entire living room.

Saying "congratulations!" when my wife says she's done with her shower. Don't even know how it started.

Fourth of July Fireworks on St. Pete Beach
Gouda Cheese mashed potatoes (Thanksgiving and Christmas)
Cuban Coffee and a pre-1940 Kaywoodie full of classic codger burley tobacco in the morning.

PS: SWMBO is convinced that B&B is internet porn and that my man cave has become the smackatorium. I'm flattered she thinks I have that much energy. When I tell her it's a bunch of guys talking about shaving she answers, "Shaving what?":lol::lol:

Which burley do you like?

Smoked Gouda, definitely

Favorite Codger Burlies: Prince Albert (my favorite), Half and Half, Edgeworth (I've still got about half a tub I've been nursing as it will not be replaceable), Five Brothers, Sir Walter (original)

There's several Cornell and Diehl Burlies I'm a huge fan of as well: Old Joe Kranz (if this were the only pipe tobacco on the market, I'd be fine), Epiphany, Riverboat Gambler, Haunted Bookshop.
