What's new

Post your local/flea market stone scores. (There's none left. Tim found them all.)

"Look what I found"
From the flea market, a Arkansas trifecta. A 4” hard, 8” soft and a 8” Washita. As a kicker, a 8” Coticule. The Washita has a interesting end label, I think it may be a early Pike Lily White. Unfortunately it is missing the top decal, so I can not confirm.

Very nice Washita. I like the "Guaranteed not to glaze." Pretty sure that's a Pike.

Thank you for deciphering the label. I could not make out the last line. The label was mostly black when I rescued it. One hour, degreaser, and a lot o Q-tips got me to were it is now. I am highly confident it is a early Pike. I lifted this picture of a Pike LW with the same label

Interesting spotting on the side of that coticule.

Manganese and Mother Nature do some strange things. At first, before cleaning, I thought it was a owners signature

From this weekends adventures, a 10 inch soft Ark, a 7 inch Surgical Black and two 5 inch Coti’s, actually 1 and 1/2. The 1/2 Coti lost its BBW. Now I have to find a BBW to save it. I tested the blue-black Ark, has a SG of 2.55. The full Coti has a nice wood grain surface

Nice haul! I hit a local flea market yesterday the only thing I saw was an India stone and some type of crystolon hone. I passed; it's been dry up here on the stone front recently.

Thank you for the nice comments. I will send Florida warm weather north. Will start spring cleaning early so a new crop of good stuff becomes available

I have been in a stone drought lately, until today. Went to a living estate sale and found a few stone to take home. A boxed 6x2 Woodworkers Delight Washita. I like this stone. This is a very nice, fine, smooth stone, labeled “grade L.W. & R.R”. Thought they were both the same, I will see how it cleans up. Also two Thuringains, a 6”Escher and a 7” unlabeled that the seller told me was from Fox Cutlery. A possible Fox 44, but no box or label so it is demoted to a Thuri. The seller was so glad the stones are going to a good home, he told me to come back next week, he has more but thought nobody would want them. Can’t wait

Last two pictures I lifted so show what the labels would look like if they were in good condition

Thanks for sharing Tim!
It would be awesome if you one day when you are bored built a little castle with your sharpening stones and took
pictures and showed us. Like with lego.
I want to see how big the castle would be :001_smile
Just be careful with the stones.

No, you will have to invite B&B members to the fortress. :a19:
Please put the flattened surface out/in so that we can seize the opportunity to
refresh straight razors on the fortress wall when visiting. :a30:

Nice finds, looking really nice. Feels good to know that they will come to good use and not needle sharpeners as my finds seems to have been used as.

Well we did kind of name the thread after him. Puts a lot of pressure on a guy ya know.

Great finds guys. Always nice to know stuff is still out there.

It is not my thread, I hope to see many stones found by many members. They are out there waiting to be rescued. To me, there is no pressure, I find what I find. Nothing today but a few carbo’s
