"Look what I found"
The snow bird migration had started. Three flea market stones this weekend from three different markets. A 6 inch #1 Washita, a 6 inch synthetic Coticule and a 5 inch trans Arkansas in a wooden case. The Washita has the remains of a second side sticker I never saw before. It also has very small and tight grain. Good potential for being a nice mid range stone

Great finds as always, Tim.

You don’t see that side label very often. Here’s one that I have that somehow survived the years intact.

Is there a way to find out if a stone is a natural or synthetic?
The brown-red I guess is a synthetic as it is very thirsty. But can synthetic have different colour on slurry than stone?

The right one is a sand stone, I thought the middle one could also be this but now I don't even know if it is a natural one. It has tiny hole all over. Give edge like perhaps 3000# Naniwa but the grain looks to be similar to Naniwa 400#.

Grain picture, middle-middle stone, upper left Naniwa 400#, upper right Naniwa 1000#, lower left-reddish stone, lower right-sandstone.

Found this today at a local flea market. When I first saw it I thought thuri, but it feels too dense and something looks off.

"Look what I found"
It was Norton day at the market today. The good thing is they all came from one dealer and even better they were the second to last sellers that I stopped at. Did not have to carry all the weight to long. The stone are 6,7,and 8 inches long and the Washita feels especially smooth

Wow. I’ve never seen a Norton Washita that looked like that. I’d love to know the SG on that one if you feel up to it, Tim

The colder it gets up north, the quicker the snowbirds return with tribute for me. A 4 inch Trans Ark, a 7 inch Escher and a 13.5 x 2 inch mystery monster slate. The monster has two 1” holes in the corners perpendicular to and a 1/2” on the end parallel to the surface. Very big, heavy and smooth even roughed up

You're going to need to invest in one of those portable shipping containers to store all these scores soon Tim! :001_302:

OK, who did it?
Who changed the title?
Who is this Tim and why does he get top billing?

To live up to the title change, some stones from last weekend. Needed to clean the purple stone in a soak of simple green for a few days. When I rescued it, the larger stone was black and covered in funk. It cleaned up good. I Think it is French and the same seller had the wavy Coticule

@timwcic send me some of your good luck. We are looking at antique stores in Chattanooga today. Fingers crossed

My the spirits of rockrubbers send you some good juju. On I-24 between Chattanooga and Nashville on the north side of road is a flea market I scored at before years ago. Don’t remember the name of town but a place to try
