Post your favorite barbershop for a Shave-and-a-Haircut

I live on the Nassau/Sullfolk line on Long Island and on east 31st street in the city. I've been going to the same barbershop for 5 years or so on the island and its getting run down looking. Time for a change.

Where do you guys go in your hometowns?

I go to this place in Arlington called "Xclusivo cuts" the guys there are superb barbers. I usually only get a haircut/edge. But if it's been a few days then i go ahead and get a shave (they work with a shavette)

the address is:

2020 Mansfield Webb Rd
Arlington, TX 76002
Phone:(817) 557-6448

I go to parkway barbershop in Berea, OH for a flat top and hot lather neck shave. Great haircut and prices.

Ashton's Classic Barbers in SW Las Vegas. I go in there mostly for the atmosphere. Lots of experience between the barbers that work there and they're genuinely personable, which is rare in this city.

Brownie Townsend's Barber Shop in Jeffersonville, IN. Brownie gave me my first haircut, his son, Dwight, cuts my hair now. Brownie passed away a few years ago. Dwight cut my dad's hair, my son's hair, gave my grandson his first haircut and my best friend his last. I have a standing appointment every third Saturday. Decent haircut for $9. I take him a cup of coffee and tip him a few bucks.

I used to go to a place in Commack (I think) on Jericho Turnpike. It was in a little plaza and it had maybe 8 or 9 chairs. Old school to be sure. (At the time--1999 or so--they had 2 locations, I think.) I got some good shaves (at the JT location) and at least one absolutely horrible one (at the other location, as I recall).

I did a quick Google search and it might be Mayfair or perhaps Commack Corners.

The best shave I have ever had were from Boris at the Art of Shaving on Madison Ave in NYC. At the time they were pretty reasonable, but I see the prices for this service has really jumped. I know at least two others here had a bad experience with Boris, but my experience was top-notch. Again, this was in the late 1990's and he was getting old then. I imagine he may just be past his prime now.

I just had a fine shave and excellent haircut at Angelo's in Mandarin (Jacksonville) for $25. There was a little cut, which I didn't really notice until I got home. I thought it was just a small nick when I left, but there was more dried blood when I got home than I would have expected. Otherwise it was pretty flawless and I will give him another shot.

The only barber I have been to in the past 25 years is Jim.

He has had a single chair shop in the same location since 1965.

He stopped giving shaves a number of years ago.

Mexico Barbershop in Brownsville, TX for a Shave(old school Barbeshop). UGK Underground Kuts (younger vibe more hiphop type barbershop) in Brownsville, TX for either a low fade 2 on top or taper fade two on top. My hair is starting to go no other real choices for haircut styles.

Found a small, 4 chair shop on 3rd between 32nd and 33rd in NY called Yans. Lots of work with the scissors, very little trimmer, nice neck shave with a shavette. Recommended.

I had my first hair cut and shave 2 days ago at The Celtic Barber here in Launceston Tasmania. very interesting experience apparently my beard is so coarse that they have offered me permanent half price shaves every week so they can practice. should I be worried?

Worried? Maybe a bit. But I'd go for it!

When I lived in Norman, OK for school I went to Bill's Barber Shop at
824 N Porter Ave Norman, OK 73071 (405) 364-4247. Bill has owned the place for over 50 years and he and his daughter and daughter-in-law cut the hair. Its a great old school type barber shop where only men get their hair cut and you never need an appointment. You walk in the door and Martha tells you to "come in here!". I always felt like a member of the family when I went in there which I often needed in college. We always had something great to talk about whether it be Oklahoma University football or family, etc. I definitely didn't need a haircut every week but I gladly used my spending money on that because I couldn't think of anything I would rather do on a Friday afternoon. I always got a "high and tight" with a 1 on top and taken to the skin with a shavette on the sides. Hot towel and lather, a massage after. The works. I miss that place like crazy and I get my hair cut every time I go back to visit. I would never spend money on a hair cut at a barber shop on Post , so I just have my wife buzz it. I don't remember if they do face shaves or not, but I doubt they'd turn you away if you asked. Ahh memories.

In Barrie Ontario I head to The Barber Pole where Vince is a one man operation. Your appt. is you alone, he puts on the big band tunes ,you sit in a 1935 restored chair and have a 9 towel shave, then a wash ,cut and style . Trueffitt and Hill products and an expresso to finish off. Great experience
