Portland General Store Colognes - Has anybody tried them?

I wasn't impressed by the scent of the Whiskey personally. I might have expected too much though. Performance wise it was suitable.

The comments here about the colognes have not bee favorable, and if you do the math you'll see that the prices are freakin' outrageous!!! You can find better prices at most niche houses. I have the tobacco AS, and I am not impressed.

$68 for 15ml. $136 per 30ml, which is roughly equivalent to 1oz. $4.53 per ML.

For purposes of comparison, a 4oz (120ml) bottle of Creed Green Irish Tweed costs $285; $71.25 per ounce, or $2.38 per ML.

Thank you for sharing the math, John. I had done it in a thread a while back, but was too lazy this time. And you even used a retail price for the Creed in your comparison, which somewhat minimizes the outrageous price of the Portland products.

I LOVE their shave jelly-it's awesome for a quick shave. I have all of the Tobacco line which is discontinued, except the cologne. The after shave works well, but the scent (which I love) disappears quickly. I always wanted to try the cologne but I'm not spending that much. I miss their old look, too-brown apothecary bottles.

A while ago, someone posted that they found the basic, unscented base that all of these companies use for their shaving gels. You'd have to search the shaving cream archives to find it. If you like that kind of thing, it might be a good option. You could get a big tub of it and scent it yourself with a nice EO.
