What's new

Please recommend a new badger brush.

Hello all,

I've got a Parker badger brush that I feel is a little too big and floppy. I'm a face-latherer and I have a hard time getting the bristles under my hairs when I'm working the lather on my upper lip. I think I need something a tad bit smaller/less floppy.

Here it is:

Any suggestions?

A Rooney 1/1 is pretty darn nice for face lathering. I recently picked up a Simpsons Wee Scot that is way more brush than it looks like. It's small, very small, but I have to say it performs as good as, if not better than, any other brush I have!

What price range are you looking at? If you want to keep it under $50 I would look at the New Forest brush you can get at eBay UK, or a vintage reknotted TGN brush that pop up all the time on BST.

EDIT: Actually the new forrest brush is cheaper from here: http://newforestbrushes.blogspot.com/

A little bit higher in price are the famed Rooney 1/1's that I've never seen a bad thing said about them. The Colonel X2L is in that range and supposedly a good brush.

If you want to plop down greater than $100, any of the simpson 2-bands would be a good choice.

If you are not opposed to getting a boar, the Semogue SOC can be had for about $32 shipped and it the very limited time I've used it, I know it will be a great face lathering machine.

The Rooney 1/1 in silvertip is really nice, but can't beat a Shavemac.

Or can you???

Semogue 1305 boar, go for it. Cheap and excellent.

I would suggest the Rooney 1/1 in Super also. This is my main face lathering brush unless I am traveling, then it is the Simpson's Case in Best.

Any suggestions?

Any budget?

Low budget: *New *Forest *2201 or Semogue (620, 820, or SOC)
Moderate: Rudy Vey or Penworks
A little higher: Rooney 1/1 Super Silvertip or Shavemac Finest (50mm loft)
Expensive: Simpson 2 band, Rooney Heritage (better yet, Rooney Finest if you can find one), or Custom Shavemac D01

These are brushes I'd consider for face lathering.

An excellent small brush is Simpson's Berkeley 46 in Best badger.
It is very well made and it is packed with good density.
It is truly a great brush, at a great price.:thumbup1:

These "lower" end simpson best brushes are probably the best deals around..you can't beat the quality of their best hair for less than 50

other worthy choices to consider...The Case, Special, wee scot

can't go wrong
