What's new

please help identity my find

Looks like a Tech to me, but a later model with the oval lather slots. Can't really see the handle, but I am guessing it has a ball end?

Gillette Ball End Tech in a Gillette President Case. If the case cleans up, it might be worth something.

Thanks For the replies. How old would y'all say it is, and how would you clean the case without damaging it?

Looks like a B or a D near the flash flare so it's either a B-1 (first quarter 1956) or D-1(1958) Gillette Tech.
+1 on the frankencase but if it does clean up nice it might be worth more than the Tech.

Would help to have some better picks of the case just to see what we're working with but I use a damp cloth on the outside(nothing too harsh) and a can of compressed air for blowing the gunk out.

(edit: add cleaning info)

Welcome to B&B madddashash. The Tech might be a good place to start if are just getting into DE shaving. Techs were made and used by the millions in their day. It's a forgiving razor but still the real deal. Congrats.

Thanks for the welcome!! I've been wet shaving for over a year but just started going antiquing with my parents and can't pass these guys up!! I just got 3 more today. Two Gillette TTO's one adjustable and one single edge mirak. As far as the case goes I'm not sure if its gunk or rust.

One of the Gillette's appears to have Been gold plated originally. There looks to be some left on the under side of the head. Would it be advisable to send it off for replating?

I don't think that razor looks as though it was originally gold, it looks to be in pretty good condition from what I can see.

That is probably what they call "brassing", which is where the plating wears off, revealing brass, which is what the razor is made of.

Sorry guys its not the one in the picture. I bought a couple more the other day. One of the new ones looked as if it may have been gold plated, it looks more yellow that brass would be and it appears to be going over the metal color.

Under the head is where I usually notice brassing, and it can have a gold color. If your razor is chrome or nickel, it is probably brassing, as I don't think that the gold was plated over those materials.

Besides, there would likely be more evidence of the gold plating than just under the head.

Pics would definitely help, though.

This is the pictures that i was trying to upload. Not the case!!! Sorry for the tech difficulties. But this is one of the new razors that i Picked up. This is the one that I thought may have been gold plated. Is this another Tech razor? The date code is Y3. Sorry for all the questions, im just starting to collect them lol. Ive had a new pilot for a year or two and until now that was the only DE that i have seen in person

What you have there is a 3rd quarter 1953 (Y3) Gillette Superspeed (40's style) razor. They are GREAT razors! Appears to be user grade, but a little polish will make the Nickel plating shine! I have a Y2 myself!

You could have it replated if you wished, or just use it and find another. I would not spend the money plating a Superspeed, there are a LOT of them out there!

Welcome to the insanity! Hide your wallet and paypal account :) hehe
