Platinum

I’m starting to suspect these “platinum” blades don’t all contain platinum.

I don't get this anymore when it comes to credit cards. Gold costs more than platinum, yet Amex Gold has a lower fee and benefits than Amex Platinum.
Platinum used to be a more precious metal. I am sure why the positions switched would be interesting to read about.

sidetrack from Platinum to Palladium: My 1954 Hammond B3 Organ has pure palladium wires for the key contacts. Maybe I should pull out the palladium wires and make myself an Iron Man ARC reactor

I once had a client that made high technology switches. Palladium was necessary for the high performance but they were able to use a thin metallic strip of mostly a base metal with a palladium edge. I suspect that the platinum used in blades is so small by weight that the cost of the precious metal used is not significant.
