Pinaud Lilac Vegetal

Just a random question, have you ever used the Lilac Vegetal after shave? If so what color was it? I just picked up a bottle and the color looks to be different from what I have seen online. Also the scent is very mild and the little scent I do get isn't all that great. I've read so many good things about it I can't imagine that this is what everyone has been raving about. Just wondering if I just got a bad bottle?

Mine is a light to darkish green..depending on lighting...scent is slightly sweet with slight old fashioned barbershop scent

Mine's a light green, and the scent is essentially flowery lilac with fresh greenery. Some people think it smells of cat pee - but either way, it's not known for being "very mild".

you got a bad bottle alright!!

Doesn't that imply that good bottles exist?:laugh:

Good bottle, or Bad bottle, it doesn't much matter as Lilac Vegetal is unbelievably foul!!

My family's property has several lilac bushes on it; I am intimately familiar with the scent of real lilac. Pinaud Lilac Vegetal neither smells like actual lilacs, nor smells even remotely pleasant.

YMMV!!

I haven't been here long, but I already know this is a topic that generates strong views, and not a little bit of levity.

I don't care for flowery aftershaves, so I doubt I will ever be chosen by the Veg. In fact, while I wouldn't say it smells like cat pee, I don't care for it much, or should I say, it doesn't care for me.

Lilac Vegetal is indeed an ongoing topic.

There are some who profess to love it.

Then there are people who understand that it is one of the great riddles of the world as to why something so foul is still produced.

It always reminds me of what a toothless prospector who spent a long time in the desert about 1870 would splash on after his first bath in 5 months. He would smell better... But not much.

If your bottle is "mlld" and "you can't smell" it, I'd say that's a GREAT bottle and you should be able to sell it on eBay for thousands!

I tend to wonder if it still sells because

1- it's inexpensive
2- enough men in grooming type forums keep artificially chatting this stuff up to "haze" new members as some sort of rite of passage.

Veg is a very light, true green.
Citrus Musk is a dark green.
Lime-Sec is dark, almost a blue/green.
Special Reserve is a very, very dark, almost olive brown/green.
Virgin Island Bay Rum is brown.

Hmm... which one should I wear tonight.....

3- Some people actually like it, regardless of 1.

Fixed that for you!!!

I'd buy it at twice the cost.

It's not that easy, being green
Having to spend each day, the butt of cat pee jokes
And I think it could be nicer, using menthol, an oriental or musk
Or something noncontroversial like that

It's not that easy being green
'Cause Lilac Vegetal smells like no ordinary thing
And people tend to pass you over
'Cause you're not popular like bland aquatics, or scents priced way high

But, Veg is the scent of cannon smoke
And Veg can dry down, all friendly like
And Veg can be big, like a Hussar, or important, like a moderator
Not at all like cat pee

And Veg doesn't choose just everyone
And it can make you wonder why
but why wonder why wonder
I'm chosen, and it'll do fine
It's Vegetal, and I splash it on freely all over me

I have also been chosen for the Veg. Thought that I would give it a shot and I have to say that, although not an every day choice, I like it. Lilac also happens to be my wife's favorite so score two.

For me, I get more powder than anything.

You forgot the Clubman - which is urine yellow (but doesn't smell like cat pee).

A less expensive knockoff of the Veg exists...

Feed your cat 3 lbs of asparagus and have it pee in a bottle.
