Pinaud Clubman v. Floid...?

I was getting a haircut at my barber the other day and he finished by dousing a a barber neck brush in Pinaud Clubman talc and whapping my neck and scalp with it...

I liked the scent a lot. Very barber shoppy. Now I'm curious about the aftershave, but I want to know how strong the scent is and whether the scent is similar to the talc?

I ask this because my wife has strong reactions to my aftershaves (hates -- HATES -- Tabac, for instance [sigh]). But she likes Floid a lot (thank god). Anyone tried both and can give me some idea of how they compare?

Thanks.

Clubman is my overall favorite and i believe that it is about half the price of Floids. I like the scent of Clubman better but Floids is a little smoother on my skin. I do love both!!

The a/s and talc do have the same scent (or at least very close). I find the a/s a bit strong and has quite good staying power. If I wear it to work I go pretty light on it. However I generally use it as my weekend aftershave.

Hmm. Thanks. I've never used Brut, so the comparison doesn't help me. It's cheap enough that I suppose I could just get it and then give it away if it doesn't work out.

Clubman really is a classic barbershop fragrance. i don't think that you can beat it for the price. Brut is very similar. but I'd give the edge to Clubman.

Yeah, the Clubman aftershave is on the strong side. Go easy on the application and you'll be fine. I love it.

Clubman = Good Stuff!

If you find it too strong, a lot of guys will mix it with witch hazel to tone it down a bit...

Remember, one gent here was advised by his "better half" to not wear the Clubman unless he was "in the mood" :w00t:

Clubman is the King of After Shaves.

Ha ha... For my wife, aftershave is more a repellent. She'd prefer I not wear anything, but there are a couple of aftershaves she doesn't mind, Floid's one, Dominica Bay Rum is another. There is definitely no AS on earth that would put her in "the mood."

Funny you say that. my better half almost threw me out of the bed one night because I was wearing the Clubman. She detests the scent. Her words were "it smells like my dad". Growing up, my dad used Brut exclusively. Perhaps that is why I have a mild fascination with the Clubman. In the interest of being able to sleep in my own bed, I purchased a bottle of the Pinaud Vanilla scent. SWMBO is much happier. unknown to her, I also have a bottle of the Pinaud Bay Rum and Pinaud Special Reserve on the way.

After reading the thread, I think the question still remains. Do Floids and Clubman smell similar? I have Clubman and was thinking about trying one of the Floids but it is more expensive and harder to get and Superlather does not have any decants at the moment. So do they smell similar?

Yeah. Anyone? And don't say it's like Brut. I've not tried that either. :tongue_sm

Sorry, I thought the question was if Clubman a/s and talc had the same scent (which they do). As far as Clubman and Floid, I'd say no. I use both Clubman and Italian Floid, and don't find them to be similar at all. Floid has a scent that's unique (and does not smell like Brut btw) and has a good menthol kick as well. The nice thing about the Floid is it isn't as overpowering as Clubman and it burns down quickly to a rather subtle but lasting fragrance, making it safe to wear to work. Also FWIW, the Floid has been SWMBO approved.

Clubmans is a different scent to floids, a bit stronger and full on, bought a sample bottle of floids and glad i did as to me it smells really cheap and awful though its very popular on here, just not for me!

This is very helpful. Floid is SWMBO approved, which is why I was wondering whether or not I may be able to get away with the Clubman, too. Sounds like it's quite a bit stronger though. I like and wear Floid a lot.

Thanks!

I like all the Floids tremedously!

Clubman, could be in the same scent family, but i would never say they smell similarly. My take on the situation is that each is the old man scent in thier respective countrys. Unlike Clubman, we in the US have just not been exposed to to the scents over the years, as opposed to Clubman which we've been smelling on our fathers and grandfathers for 100ish years.
