What's new

picked up a Proraso brush the other day

Started DE shaving the first of the year. My first brush was a WSP Prince. I have really liked it, but have always been curious about boar. So I had some Amazon credit and picked up one of the Proraso brushes the other day. I was interested to see that it came in a Proraso box, but everything else on it says Omega. I didn't realize they didn't rebrand it beyond the box. I had read where the boar brushes smelled bad, so I made a couple of lathers with it the afternoon it came in. Finally used it last night, and, although it's not nearly as soft as my badger brush it worked really well with the tub of soap I used. I initially didn't think I had gotten enough soap in it for more than a pass or two, but it turns out there was enough for my 3 passes and still seemed to have plenty left. I'm guessing that was due to the brush being a LOT taller than my badger brush and the soap kind of hiding in it.

It's taller than my WSP, so it works better when I lather in a bowl rather than face lather. It's not nearly as soft as the badger brush, but then I wasn't expecting that. Seems like a nice enough brush.

IIRC it is an Omega 49. Breaks in to become a great face latherer.

.. because it´s a "83"er with a shorter loft :001_tongu.
The "49"er has a loft of 65 mm like the "83"er in my photo. The Proraso has a loft of 60 mm.
It brakes in in 2 weeks and is a face latherer like a charme .
Personally my favourite the last 12 months.

Yes - the handles are equal, the diameter of the knots too. Only the length of the bristles are others.

Keep using it- after 20 shaves or so -with adequate time to dry- it will become very soft with lots of backbone.

I got one of those myself, cheap enough to try and give a little $$ to a local B&M, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it (bowl) lathered up my Cade. Good brush out of the box, no smell, it sure is cheap looking though
