What's new

Pets and scent.

I love dogs and cats. I currently have a pair of cats - littermates. One is a huge black tom, the other a dainty tiger with white boots. They love to lick AS or cologne off my fingers, and would be all over my face if I let them. They purr ecstatically whilst licking. They are both "fixed" but I think something in the scent must mimic pheremones. Anyone with a similar experience?

I can't say my cat enjoys the smell or taste of AS. Never seemed to make a difference if I wore AS that day or not. Once though, I opened the bottle of Osage Rub and put it down on the counter for minute to grab something else. The cat was on the counter so he took a whiff. He didn't like it much as he jumped off the counter and ran off. Was pretty funny how he reacted.

Some of the newer colognes contain pheromones, but I'm pretty sure that the older ones like Grey Flannel and Black Suede don't. Maybe castoreum or civet, but I don't remember.
My cats don't particularly like my AS or cologne and I occasionally use Grey Flannel. I also wouldn't trust their judgement. One of my mine likes to stick her head inside my shoes and purrs after I come in from working in the yard all day. :scared:
They are unpredictable little buggers.

My cats screw up their eyes and run away. I wouldn't really let a pet put my AS in their mouth though...

Cats in particular are extremely sensitive to liver and kidney damage. I wouldn't let mine lick aftershave off my fingers.

As far as scents go though, mine seems to like Clubman and really dislike 4711. She posed for a photo shoot with some Arko soap though :001_cool:

My mom's cat (a Tortie) would often get drunk off of certain scents I had. The main ones were Axe Essence (before I stopped using Axe) and Pinaud Clubman. When I still lived there, she would jump up on the bathroom counter and rub her face on the bottle. After splashing it on and walking out of the bathroom, she would start walking around drunkenly and purring until she eventually fell over.

My wife has a bottle of Happy Trails Aromatherapy Mist by V'TAE. I often think that this product, containing citronella, patchouli, and clove, would make a great aftershave.

Anyway, the third ingredient, right after alcohol and water, is essential oil of catnip. Neither of our cats is a catnip responder, so I can only imagine what using this as an aftershave would be like with other cats.

About a month ago, on a Sunday afternoon, after church and dinner I was sitting in my chair and watching a baseball game, when my cat jumped up on the back of the recliner and started sniffing my head (I shave my head) which wasn't unusual. Then he started licking it!!! :w00t: That morning I had shaved using Mama Bear's Lime Ice (on face and head) and then splashed some of MB's Lime Ice AS milk on afterwards. Thats the only one he seems to be attracted too.

My cats love my AS. They head butt me and stick their faces right in mine and smell. I don't have any that they don;t like. I figure if the wife likes it and the cats like it, then it must be good stuff.:lol::lol:
