What's new

Peter L. Frost Radiumite?

I found this today at the local antique store. For some reason I got the sudden urge to run down there about 20 minutes before they closed this afternoon since I hadn't been there in a couple weeks. After not seeing much, I grabbed the OS mug, which I've been meaning to get for a while, and a DE out of the same case. I asked the owner about any brushes or other shave stuff, and he brought this straight out that he had just put in his case today. He only wanted $12.50 for it, so I thought it was a fair deal. I like the style of the blade, and I don't have any of the round points yet. It also came with the original box, which is always nice. The scales are in great shape, nice and tight still, and the blade centers perfectly. Anyone have one of these? That rust on the blade seems light, but I'm worried that it might damage the lettering on the blade by sanding it.

I got one off ebay several months ago. I haven't honed it up yet, but I suspect that it will be a fine shaver. it's American made I believe. The etching on mine is not very deep at all and mostly worn away. You can try sanding lightly with a fairly high grit and see how it goes. I doubt you would get all that rust off without removing the etch. Just go slow with it and see what happens. I would have bought it for $12.50 so I think you did OK

now i don't know how well this would work but i've been meaning to try it. there is a product called rusteco i believe that is totally non-toxic that will remove rust without damaging base metal. it has something to do with altering the oxides in the rust. and from what i hear works specatacularly well on everything. though it is a little spendy a quart would go a long way and shouldn't damage the etch in any way. I am talking myself into ordering this stuff as we speak.
