Personna Meds vs. Feathers

I've been using these 2 for the past couple months and I'm thinking of switching exclusively to the Meds. So far, especially with the first shave, the Meds give me all the closeness of the Feathers, and I almost never fail the Alum Test (sting) with them.

The Feathers give an absolutely great shave, no doubt, but there's a touch of harshness there that renders them ineloquent in comparison to the Meds IMO.

Could be personal too. My beard is medium-to-thick, I'm a 3 pass shaver with the 3rd a hybrid pass/touchup, and I control the razor with a light touch vs. letting the razor do the work.

Others?

Almost the exact same experience here. I went through feather, Kai, meds, labs and polsilver. I've gotten excellent performance from all, but the two harshest were feather and Kai (Kai by a mile btw...I started calling them Kai-Yai-yais.) as a three pass daily shaver, the other three are extremely more comfortable from shave 1...and I found I was replacing feathers every 3-4 shaves instead of the 5 I get out of the other three.

For the money I've chose labs as my goto....haven't noticed any functional difference yet between them and the meds. Ymmv of course.

I used to feel this way but curiosity has gotten the best of me so I have order a couple packs of feathers for comparison.

With all the talk about Feathers I often want to buy some but I'm happy with my Personnas. I had a Derby in the other day and although I don't get any pain from them the Personnas do a better job for me.

Certainly fair to say the Meds have it over Derbys. They're top class...

You're not missing anything. I just PIF a 10 pack of "ticklers" in the safety razor blade forum a couple weeks ago. I don't appreciate their so called "sharpness".

Just looked at the site. I'm fine for blades although I did find they had Proraso blue which I've only seen on US sites so far.

I have been using the Meds or Labs as my primary blade for over a year now. I have a stash of Lords, Personna Reds, Astras, and a few other blades but for me the best shaves come from the Meds or Labs.

I personally love both Meds and Feathers and interchange them frequently. I tend to only use a blade twice anyways so that doesn't play a role but they both are excellent for me.

Feathers and Meds are what I have a stock of. The Feather by far cuts my stubble easier. I can get a great shave with the Meds but it takes noticeably more downward (not inward) pressure than the Feather blade. I only use either of them for three shaves then toss them. I'll pay a little more for a sharper blade. Also I will agree that the Meds are smoother but I find I have to be careful with them or I will get major irritation. I think this comes from being used to the effortlessly cutting Feather.

The Meds are quite good blades, the only blade I thought close to the sharpness and quality of shave as the Feather. For me they're not quite as smooth although more forgiving than a Feather. I've used the Feathers almost exclusively for the last 5 years and decided to part with what I had left of the Med Preps and just stick with Feather as my only blade.

Tried Feather blade with a Tech. Very close shave with some irritation. Blade is sharp but last just 4 shaves. Personna Med is much smoother and lasted a week. I change my blades after a week of use. Kai is as sharp as feather but lasts longer. My current favorite is Voshod.

They are both good blades. Give it 6 months and try revisiting the feathers, you might be surprised. Enjoy your shave!

My experience mimics Jim's-- Meds have been my go-to blade for at least a year. I still keep some Feathers around, though-- for me the second shave with a Feather may be just a tiny bit better than with a Med. Of course, there's only one second shave to be had with the Feather, and the perceived difference is relatively trivial (and may exist only in my head).

I like both, but in different razors. In my gillettes, I prefer the personnas. In my EJ de89, I prefer the feathers.
Does anyone have a similar experience?

The blade is always sharper on the other side of the sink. With me, it depends on what I am currently using. If I use Feathers for a while, and then try a Lab Blue I am convinced I have been using the wrong blade. But...if I've been using the Lab Blue, and try a Feather...well, I switch to the Feather for a while. I must admit the Feathers don't seem to last as many shaves, and they are maybe a wee bit harsher, but I think the shave is a little closer.

Now I'm lusting after the Personna Meds, but I don't want to buy 100 until I try them.
