What's new

Personna 74

Found these at an Amvets thrift store for a dollar. I haven't opened them yet. Don't know at this point if I ever will.

Nice find!

My opinion is that vintage blades are meant to be used just like any other blade.

Perfect timing for one blade February!

Perfect timing, indeed!!

Don't save them. The package is in poor condition. In 50 years they'll be worth $5.00. Use them, and enjoy them. They are the best blades in the history of shaving.

I got about a week and a half out of my first one before I got bored to tears and tossed it. I should have kept going, but I'm too new and have too many blades to try so I'll hold off on trying another until I get this itch scratched. Good luck on the blade for a month!

I would use them.

They start out sharp, drop off to smooth, plateau at good performance, and endure for days and days.

The thing is that it gets hard to remember how long you've been using one. If you go past the good part and get sloppy with your technique then when you finally put a fresh blade in you get roughed up. You also are then left getting irritated at how quickly mere mortal blades drop off in comparison.

Nice score!!

Keep and eye out for Gillette Super Stainless and Spoilers in the white metal dispensers. Also Schick Krona Chrome and Platinum vintage blades are unrivaled by current blades a too.

I used one of the 74's today for my Easter shave in a Gillette Aristocrat. IMO, there is no blade manufactured today that can even come close to a Personna 74. It has the right balance of sharpness and smoothness with no irritation if handled correctly. There was an interesting sound it made as it was cutting but I can't describe it. Phenomenal blade.

I've been looking for these but they are pricey!

I'd also like to try the injector blades they made like these.

I can't say for certain, but, I have heard people have shaved with a single blade for up to 4 months. May be urban legend though or light growth. I suppose in the coming weeks I'll find out how long this blade will last.

Your telling me, I got blade acquisition disorder at a bad time, no way am I paying on average $5 per blade for them.
sounds about right. I think there were some on the BST a few weeks ago. something like 5 packs at $35 per pack. sold quick no doubt.

I've heard the same thing. 30+ shaves seems to be the norm for these.

so i guess for as many shaves as you can get out of each blade they really are not that bad priced. it's just the mind hurdle of paying 30+ bucks for 5 blades.

It's on page 6 of the BST. He was selling 10 blade packs of the 74's for $32.50. I contacted him and he said he had two that were unsold. I bought one of the packs.

nice! glad you got one! or another one. i still cant afford it. or rather don't want to. one day!

I have been using the same blade for its 8th shave since opening the 5 pack of P74's (March 31st) and today was a BBS shave using a NDC 40's Super Speed. The blade does not seem to be having any issues whatsoever.
