Penhaligon's shaving cream

I have 3 tubes - also had the jar of B&B, but you pay £15 extra just for the jar, a beautiful jar it is - but £15 just for that......ehhhhhh....no way :biggrin1:

So instead I bought 3 150 ml tubes of Opus 1870, Blenheims Bouquet and Endymion.

Tell you what - at fist I was pissed over that they didn't seem to perform up to the level of my Acqua Di Parma pot, Acca Kappa 1869 pot, CF Lavender pot and Santa Maria Novella pot of creams, and that the cream in the tubes I received were too thin and runny.

But after shaking them thoroughly for 3-4 minutes and then remember to shake them 10 seconds before every use, these creams perform very well.

Not in my Top 5 - but in my Top 10, all 3 Penhaligon creams. Their scent is fantastic, better than the cologne scented creams from TF&H (1805, Grafton, Trafalgar etc.) and better than the GFT Cologne creams IMHO
Mind you I still love my TF&H and GFT creams - I own 4 of each (I'm a cream collector, currently have 55 shaving creams in my den) - but Penhaligon's are very nice scented and their shaving creams all have a really nice solid performance.

I would rank them slightly above or on par with GFT, TF&H and DR Harris - but the scents of the Penhaligons them give them the extra notch, which makes me really love my Penhaligon creams.

I love all 3 scents and they perform equally well for me all 3 - I would rate them like this:

Lather quality: 8/10
Shaving performance: 9/10
Scent: 10/10
Overall: 9/10

Opus 1870: A spicy sandalwood with some pepper & incense and a subtle rose - wonderful
Endymion: A sweet vanilla and lavender with leather and coffee undertones - wonderful
Blenheims Bouquet: A spicy lemon with added woods and spice - wonderful

All 3 are equally great - I'd rate them 9/10 overall.
You can't go wrong - just remember to shake them well before each use.

I rate Pens as one of the two top performing creams out there along with Floris....truly a luxury cream that is usually a part of my one pass BBS adventures. Just a smidgen above T&H and Trumpers in performance.

I love the scent of BB and have the balm and cologne too.

PS...I never have to shake the tubes

Interesting to read about the tube shake. I just figured that Pens was a looser cream than most of the others. I'll give it a shake and see if it firms it up a touch.
BB is, for me, the most amazing fragrance. Until a few months ago, I was pretty much against wearing any sort of scent but his stuff -Wow. I have the balm as well which is excellent but the fragrance doesn't last long enough. Looks like I'll have to get the EDT as well....and maybe the shower gel...and they do a deodorant as well. I wish it was cheaper.

I have the BB in a jar (which is well worth the money, even if a bit silly, IMO). The cream is my top performer and I have tried just about all of them. In terms of scent, this is a company founded on fragrance, so simply top-tier in that regard too.

The only downside is the price.

This cream sounds right up my alley. I really like T&H creams and I've used a lot of DR Harris soap, but not their creams. We have very hard water around here and I've been slowly switching to creams since I find them easier and quicker to get a good lather with.

I had heard that the tube and the jar were in fact different creams, similar to AK tube and tub. Of course, I might be just remembering it wrong, though... Can any one confirm or deny that?

Thanks,

Anyone know of any good place to find samples of their creams? I know I'll eventually pull the trigger on BB but it would be nice to smell it and the other scents--not worried about performance.

Thanks,

It was probably me who wrote that the tubes felt thinner and different performing than the jar of B&B :001_smile

Up until I started shaking the tubes for 10 seconds before each shave, I found the creams in the tubes to be thinner and more runny, but now that I have shaken them thoroughly the cream in my 3 tubes of Penhaligon is very similar to the cream I had in my jar of Penhaligon BB (I finished my jar of B&B last month, since my GF started using it too)

I will probably buy a new jar of Penhaligon B&B for her birthday next month........

But to me, once you shake the heck out of the tubes, they perform and react and feel similar - tubes and the jar.

Thanks, Claus! Did you compare the ingredients lists? BB is in my to-buy list, but I don't want to risk getting a lesser product... if they really are the same I would definitely go for the tube.

I bought my samples from Garry in the vendor area and I feel in love with them.

The tubes are the same as the tubs, and again, they need no shaking

Well just because yours don't doesn't mean you can generalize on behalf of all Penhaligon produced tubes of shaving cream, especially when I write that all my 3 tubes needed a very rough shaking for them to get back into normal cream shape.......

I have no doubt your Penhaligon tube of cream are just fine, but why you can speak on behalf of all Penhaligon cream tube owners is a mystery to me, but what ever..............

A bit offtopic, but the Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet Shaving Cream in Jar costs $93.24 (569,- NOK) here in Norway. And I can't see myself justify the HIGH price, when I can get 4-5, relatively, high end creams for the same cost.

Probably because Im on my 10th tube and have never had to shake it. You cant "shake" shaving cream, its too emulsified. You probably had bad tubes from your vendor.

But whatever......

Ive never had to shake any tube of shaving cream in my 40 years of shaving....except canned goo.

So again BB considerers, super performing cream (the best out there), awesome scents (to my nose) and you dont have to shake it. The tubes and jars have the same ingredients
