Penhaligon-To good to be true or just a great deal?

It appears some people in the UK have access to the outlet store or employee discount. Penhaligon's is not famous enough that there have been widespread (if any) reports of counterfeiting......Ebay is pretty good if you can actually show it is counterfeit anyway.....

It's real, the reason it's discounted is that it does not include the Penhaligon's trademark ribbon.

I believe others in here have purchase from that listing and found it to be authentic.

I am personally curious about the "no ribbon" thing. i.e. Why did someone take the trouble to remove the ribbon, or never put it on?

Makes me wonder if it's older stock that Pens wholesales out after removing the ribbon. I've run into similar situations with other frags being sold without caps, or boxes.

I doubt it's a fake, just don't get the no ribbon thing.

I would think that you're right--the ribbon is removed before outlet sale. I love the reduced prices but I hate getting a tester without the cap. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to buy discount comic books and paperbacks from a local distributor that had the cover removed. Grr...

Well, decided to take the plunge and buy a bottle. Hope it turns out to be a nice bottle of cologne and the genuine article.

There are quite a few Pen sellers on Ebay UK, they must have raided the outlet stores.

Oh...still authentic product though.

Is it 50 Pounds for the two or for each? I was quoted 80 Pounds for two incl shipping to me.

Its £50 for two plus postage. I don't know what they charge for shipping to the U.S. That deal isn't for all fragrances, it just depends what they've got in or £30 seems rather steep but they probably use a courier.

I rang their outlet branch in York, as its not to far away from where i live. They charged me £50 for two 100ml bottles and about £5 extra for postage, it was quick though, next day delivery.

My wife really likes the BB, i wondered if they do other styles with the same sort of deal, i was thinking of trying the Hammam next but did notice it gets a bit of a bad wrap here on B&B???

Don't listen to anyone else, if the notes seem interesting to you then try it out. The reason we have so many choices in fragrances is because there are so many various tastes in what people like/dislike.

I look forward to receiving my decant of Hammam, along with No.88. It's funny you mention it's "wrap" on B&B because I find Penhaligon's has a strong following here, whereas at other places you often never hear the name at all. I think it really shows what kind of demographics we have here. :biggrin1:

Has anyone successfully bought one bottle from one of the outlets and had it shipped to the USA? If so, how much was it and how did you go about it?

I rang the York outlet back up and they did me a good deal on a mix and match set of colognes from the Penhaligon range with the same deal and price on the two bottles of BB, the lady insisted i try some new range or other which i forget the name of, so i took her advise on that bottle and also ordered the Opus 1870 which gets good reviews here on the B&B, and a smaller sample bottle of the Hamman as i did want to try it to make my own mind up on it.

She did say this stuff has a shelf life of about 2 years........so what does that exactly mean??? I'm assuming once opened its at its best for approx 2 years and then starts to degrade in quality with air to volume mix or something like that? I was under the impression it lasted for years...

The shelf life thing is an odd one and there doesn't seem to be any real consensus on it (and I've read a lot about it.)

On the one hand, you'll see and hear stories of people buying from some online retailers and complaining that the frag they got was weak and old.

I myself bought a bottle of GIT at Nieman Marcus once that seemed to have none of the punch I was used to. They let me return it.

Le Labo has the audacity to put a one year "expiration date" on their frags since they custom label each bottle with your name and date purchased.

But then, you see tons of people selling "vintage" versions of frags like Anteus from the 80s.

Basenotes is loaded with people who have frags they've had for years and years.

I have read a couple of stories about people who keep their frags in fridge. When a power failure hit, the temp change seemed to ruin the whole collection. Light and heat seem to be enemies of perfume.

But in the end- ???
