Parker 22R?

Parkers in my opinion are decent, but spend a little more and go for a Merkur you will not be sorry you did. If you really want a (tto), look around for a Fatboy.

I noticed your post on this and the 510.
Parkers are ok, but people seem to have a hit or miss issue with quality control.
Some guys have good luck, others have had issues.
Have you looked on the BST for a razor? There are a lot of very good deals to be had, whether it's a Merkur or aVintage Gillette etc.
In my opinion, your better off going with something that has a higher level of quality control than the Parker, but to each his own.

I have the 22R, been using it for the last 3 weeks. It is the only DE razor I have used so far, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, I have no experience with any issues due to quality control, poor craftsmanship, etc. It works well for me, and I am happy with it.

I am looking at the NEW 22R. Apparently Parker has stepped quality control up a bit. I'll probably pick one up in a month or so.

I have heard good things about the R22.
I just ordered the R73 3 piece open comb. I think the only OC that Parker makes. Like was previously mentioned it appears Parker has stepped up quality but will reserve judgment after some experience.

I have a Parker 22R and noticed the blade dragging on my face. Upon inspection I noticed a little slack on the blade mount allowing the blade to extend out one side a little farther causing the drag. Overall it’s a nice razor, but I ended up using a 1970 Super Adjustable on 3. Great shaver!

The 22R sucks. I don't even use mine anymore due to the same problem danover listed above me. If Parker has stepped up the quality control, more power to them. They lost me forever as a customer.

LOL, sorry, just the way you opened up. Based on what I have read here and in others places the newer Parkers must be light years ahead of the older stuff. I still want a Gillette or tow.....:tongue_sm

Thanks for all the info. Based on what I'm hearing I think I'll bypass the Parker's. I have a Merkur Futur, a Gillette Slim Adjustable and a Gillette Super Speed. I like how the Super Speed shaves, but the handle is a little too small for me. The Slim Adjustable is very uncomfortable. Maybe it's out of alignment. The Futur is OK, except it's too heavy for me. So I'll keep looking for that perfect razor. I just ordered a mint vintage Gillette New because I read good things about it. And maybe a straight razor might be worth a shot.

+1 I wound up giving mine away and will never buy another.

I started DE shaving with a 22R. The first thing I say is its a very nice looking, modern, razor. I quite like the aesthetics.

The second thing is that its quite aggressive. Not to mention if you aren't careful with blade placement, one side will be uneven and far more aggressive than the other. Same problem as others have stated above.

Not to say its a terrible razor, once you get the blade in there securely it works reasonably well.

--edit--

Oh, also, I bought it new about 9 months ago.

I enjoy my 22R a lot - as the previous poster stated, it needs some care and it has a large bladegap and steep angle making for a very close shave if you use it with care. The pewter finish is holding up very well. I would recommend a 22R to someone who wants an aggressive razor with a reasonable but not outstanding quality of construction. It is probably not a good choice for a starter razor and for the money or a bit more there are some good alternatives as well.

I have several parkers.. The parkers with the "new" head are not as aggressive as the past models. Parker changed their TTO head a couple of months back.. a nice improvement. I find the shave is smoother with the new head and closer, and while the "feel" is not as aggressive the shave is better-more close and comfortable. I suspect much has to do with the blade angle/exposure.
