BUT call first Obsessed. My experience with a lot of the niche scents is they are often carried very erratically. Websites and "store locaters" are often out of date. Especially if you've got a couple specific PdN scents in mind you want to sample.

I've been to two stores here in LA that Penhaligons lists as distibutors. I went there and they had very little product and bemoaned that Pens wasn't resupplying them. There's a store in Beverly Hills that Trumpers considers a distributor but they never have their frags and other products are erratically stocked as well.

I'll hit up someone on Basenotes. I'm sure there are a couple of niche specialty stores there.

Ask a fragrance question in Basenotes....

A poster also mentioned that New London Pharmacy for PdN but also noted to call first (he's been there and been burned I bet).

This store has great prices and has fragrances that are hard to find.

"NYC's Fragrance District is worth visiting. From 34th Street, walk south on Broadway for several blocks and you'll find many shops crammed with fragrances from floor to ceiling. Prices are not posted, so you can bargain and there's no sales tax."

Naw...I just asked a simple Q and knew the NYC frag heads would know where everything was.

The one that gets referenced a lot in Basenotes for niche scents is that Aedes De Venustas. They carry a lot of the most popular niche stuff Lutens, Montale, L'Artisan. (But NOT PdN evidently).

I happened to be a block away from New London Pharmacy this morning, so I stopped in to check it out. As it turns out, they do have PdN fragrances. I'm wearing a few test squirts of New York right now. The initial blast reminded me a lot of Bois du Portugal. It's still very similar as it dries down, but its diverging in a way I'm having trouble describing. Maybe "spicier" is the word I'm looking for.

New London seems like a nice store, by the way. They have a decent array of wetshaving products, fragrances, soaps, etc. Trumpers, D.R. Harris, Musgo Real, Acqua de Parma, Proraso, and Claus Porto were the ones I noticed.

Yes, the initial shot out of the barrel is exactly like BdP. But I think it turns into something very different. PdN New York is widely thought to go through three radical transitions...from opening, to middle to basenotes.

As you may well know, Luca Turin worships this fragrance. Doesn't work so well on me. But I do like that they sell a 30ML bottle. Wish more perfumers did that.

The clerk at New London actually showed me the entry in Luca Turin's book, which I had never seen before. I guess it's a good sign that she was doing her homework.

I'm not sure this one is "me," either, but I agree about the 30 ml bottles.

That's funny about the book...bet they wouldn't have whipped it out if you sampled something he crapped on though.

It is a good, well designed scent, worthy of much of the high praise. I can see why a lot of people really like it. But I just don't find it doesn't work for me too well. Dies out too fast. Which is why I'm so glad I only have a 30ml bottle.

In fairness to PdN, that happens to me a lot of scents.

Two days later and I can still smell traces of the fragrance on my jacket near where I sprayed the sample on my wrist. That may be a little too much staying power!
