Original Style Sperry Topsiders

Does anyone have a source for the original style Sperry Topsiders? Brown or blue would be okay. Two eyelet. No lining. Just rough leather inside. No shiny rivets. Brown should have dark brown rivets. Blue, white rivets. Blue should have white laces. Brown natural laces. Outside leather should be smooth not suede-like. An exact model name would be useful.

Sperry seems to have six or more two eyelet models and online it is hard to figure out what is what. Moreover there seems to be a lot of missing sizes! Brick and mortar or online works
I am not seeing much b&m these days!

I am sure Sperrt was taken over by someone who has dumbed down the line. But last time I got some AE boat shoes and AE really does not get it!

Perhaps so!

Thanks for all the effort on this. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go with the standard Quody, three rivets/eyelets or not. I have read nothing but good about them! Quoddy seems to really have the idea, which Sperry itself seems to have lost.

A rather good faith effort on Sebago's part. Back in the day, Sebago was the pretender. The off brand to the cooler and more expensive Sperry. Now Sebago seems more expensive. I do not like the look of Sebago as much as I like the classic Sperry. I my be unduly prejudiced. Those used Ebay versions seem spot on, but I do not think I am going to go for used for this purpose. I have gone used for other shoes and it has been fine.

Over the weekend I went after my AE blue version of Topsiders--model name Maritime, but the Force Ten model seems to be about the same thing--with some Venetian shoe cream and some blue cream polish and some Saphir blue wax polish, and they look pretty good. Rather too shiny I suppose, but some more Venetian shoe cream ought to bring that down while preserving the color, I would think. So I may be okay on blue topsiders for now. I might replace the laces with white leather laces. The uppers are said to be Horween Chromexcel, so I suppose they should look decent and should hold up. There is a fair amount of tread left.

I think I have some old brown Sperry's around that I had considered pretty much shot, but maybe I can restore those, too. I do not know what leather Sperry used for the uppers back in the day--deer skin comes to mind for some reason--and I do not expect they can come back as well as the AEs did, but seems worth a shot, given that Sperry is not making it easy thes days and what Quoddy id charging, even though likely well worth it!

Quick update. I replaced the brown laces in the blue AE Maritime boat shoes that worked on with Venetian shoe cream and blue shoe polish with white leather laces I got on Amazon. There is quite a bit out there on the internet saying how hard it is to replace those laces, but it seemed pretty darn easy and straight forward to me. I still need to go back over the shoes with some more shoe cream to dull the finish, but I am very happy with these right now, and do not see a reason to replace them!

I do not see that they need to be replaced now, but You Tube indicates it is not hard to get the soles replaced.

I need to dig out the brown topsiders and see how that goes.

Ohh. I thought you were looking for the shoes.
Thanks, Jason. I was earlier, I posted to that effect earlier, and I may still be so your post is helpful and on point. 36% off is a great price and these look like they fit the bill for being the original Sperry design, at least for the shoes in brown. The ones in navy blue are close, but as I remember it for the navy topsiders the eyelets were white. However, Amazon does not seem to have my size that this link! If I could have bought new shoes in what I wanted, and these seem to be, at this price, I probably would not have bothered replacing the laces like I just did!

Thanks again.

Venetian shoe cream, I meant. Not cream shoe polish. I did that last night and it brought the finish on the shoes back down to an appropriate looking boat shoe luster from a high gloss, while keeping the rejuvenated color.

I watched a You Tube video on the top 5 boat shoes and from that video's description the Sperry Men's Authentic Original 2-Eye Boat Shoe Jason linked on Amazon seems to in fact be very close to the Sperry Topsiders of old, the eyelet color for the navy version aside. Fantasic price. I wish they had my size. Another video reviewing boat shoes, liked these Sperry's, too, but said one thing that was troubling, which was that the actual sizing for a particular identified size seemed to vary rather widely from pair of shoes to pair of shoes. Amazon's return policies are very good, but it is still a hassle to order something and have it not fit. Worse would be to send something back because it did not fit, order another pair in a size up of size down based on the pair that did not fit, and have the new pair not fit either because of large variations in sizing quality control by Sperry! I had never heard of manufacturers having big variations as to what, say, a size ten was, and I have bought a fair number of shoes on-line! First world problems!
