Palmolive bar soap from the dollar store

does anyone know if the ingredients for the palmolive bar soap is the same as the shave sticks? I saw that the dollar store was selling palmolive soap 3-packs and noticed it had tallow & glycerin as a couple of the active ingredients. it made me wonder if it even smelled the same as the shave stick. any ideas?

It does smell the same here in the UK - have a couple of bars, but have thrown away the outer wrapper with the ingredients on. I think it was more expensive than the shavesticks tho :)

That's funny, i just picked up a pack of the bar soap last week because i figured it would have the same fragrance as the shave stick, but nope. It was totally different and pretty bad IMO

Um....I doubt it.

I tried using Yardleys bar soap (tallow first, widely available at CVS, etc) to shave with, and it was as bad as Wiliams:thumbdown

Did the same thing and came to the same conclusion.

The Yardleys bar soap at a dollar a bar is a great deal for the shower. SWMBO buys both the Lavender and the Almond&Oatmeal for the bathrooms. But to shave with, I don't think so.

I picked up the three pack the other day, and after reading through this thread, decided to give it a try with my shave...the comparison to Williams is dead on...the foam was very quick to fade. I think maybe, with a badger brush, it may whip up a little better, but me and my boar werent able to do any better than a puck of williams...I think i may try again though...

I picked up some of the Palmolive dollar store soap. Shaved with it...the comparison to williams is dead on...the lather is quick to fade...maybe it was my boar brush though...im gunna keep trying...I dig the smell...

I like the Palmolive bar soap very much...a great product and cheaper than dirt at the Dollar Store. But...it's a hand soap, not a shaving soap. The real Euro Palmolive shave sticks are still extremely cheap if you look at a cost per shave, last a long time, and are awesome performers. If you were to take a Palmolive stick, add some froo-froo scent to it, shape it into a puck, package it in a wooden bowl, and give it a fancy French name, you could sell it for 50 bucks and have people lined up to order it!

The Palmolive bar soap and the shaving stick have total different formulas - the bar soap is not for shaving (leaves the skin dry and scratchy).
For the wash before a shave the bar is good - and for the hand wash, too.

Greetings

Andreas

I have no recent experience with the body soap, but the shave stick smell just like I remember the body soap smelling when I was a kid. Worth a try, IMO.
