Painting a restored brush?

Hi all,

I really don't know what I'm doing with this restore, but I'd kind of like to repaint it. I'm not so fond of the current colors. Would anyone know anything about what kind of paint would work best for this, if it's even possible? Thanks!

Here are pictures of it after removing the old hair:

I don't think it's painted. It's probably colored plastics. That said if you wanted to paint it. I'd sand it, spray prime it, paint with arylics or a plastic surface spray paint + painters tape, then clear matte or gloss outside spray on finish.

Rust-Oleum Universal all surface paint.
Spray multiple coats, let dry for a week then rub out with car polish and wax.

Quick warning though... Wait several days before painting the 2nd color (if you're goign back with 2-tone)....

I'm currently working on a restore. I'm using the Krylon and was attempting to do a 2 tone paint scheme. I put six coats of white on the entire thing and let it sit for 24 hours. It looked awesome! I taped it off to proceeded to put the blue on the bottom. Apparently with 6 coats, the undercoats had not totally cured and the blue crackled the white.

It's what Bob Ross would call a 'happy accident'. I actually like the crackled look and will probably keep it that way, but if that's not what you are looking for, wait a few days before your 2nd color.

Thanks for the tip. I do plan on doing a two-tone.

Did you use the spraypaint that Bob mentioned above?

I used the Krylon that was labeled as 'indoor-outdoor' paint. The can said it would work with wood (the handle i had was wood). I believe it is acrylic. The white and the blue were both the same type, so it wasn't a paint mismatch.

I really do think it was just a case of not letting it cure long enough, because the bottom of the handle did not etch like the rest of it. I didn't spray as much white paint on the bottom, because I knew I would be spraying it blue. You live, you learn. Like I said, I actually like the way it looks, but I can't claim that I meant for that to happen....

Not that it matters, but I kind of like the colors of the brush you have there. I haven't seen any like that before. Plus with most of the lettering, etc. intacted, it seems a shame to paint it. I painted mine because it was down to bare wood in several places.
