Outlaw Refinery - Santa’s Pipe

So I spotted this soap and it sounds pretty interesting to me -
This soap is made from all natural ingredients. Outlaw Refinery Santa's Pipe Scented shaving soap has the distinct smell of a pipe after Christmas dinner. Canadian artisan makes them in small batches. I was just wondering if anyone here has used this soap or would have a review?

Thanks for letting us know about this soap and maker. The scent definitely piqued my curiosity as I love Christmas related scents (especially anything with a hint of clove). I did find one EO/FO supplier with an FO of the same name and their description was "a cozy scent with notes of cherrywood, raspberry, vanilla and tobacco". If this is the same FO used in the soap, then this would make a GREAT scented shave!!

Thanks for giving a look I emailed the maker to ask for the specifics, sounds really good to me Grundi would you mind PM the link?

I found the link Grundi to the FO maker...thanks for the heads up.

From the maker...
“That’s very accurate. The cherry is the strongest scent...but there are notes of tobacco and vanilla. There’s also a hint of bourbon.” Sounds good to me...I know it’s Summer but “Winter is Coming”...come on, I couldn’t resist that...LOL

Just pulled the trigger on one and will certainly review it once it arrives...
The maker's replied makes the scent sound very interesting. I've got a tub of Wild West Shaving Billy The Kid whose scent profile is similar (with the bourbon but without the tobacco) and it's a great scent and very good soap.

To me, scent is an important part of my shave, so I'm looking forward to your opinion/review of this soap and how close the scent profile is.

So a quick question with this scent profile what would be a recommendation for a matching AS or Balm?

Well I purchased the soap from this artisan in Calgary, Alberta and used it for the first time for this mornings shave and I have to say I am impressed. The packaging is quite nice (though I believe not water proof) and even comes with a safety seal on the inside once you remove the lid so that you know it hasn't been tampered with. Immediately you notice the soap is quite firm and black in colour! It has activated charcoal in it to improve post-shave feel. Yes it does. This is a Vegan soap...

Today's razor was a 69 Gillette Super Speed; O2, loaded up with a Wilkinson Sword (3); only two days growth and so I wanted something mild so I could concentrate on the soap.

Immediate scent of cherries followed by a subtle blend of vanilla, tobacco and bourbon. Pleasant and I can see how you'd come away with a "Christmas Dinner" scent in your mind. Not an overpowering scent and fades pretty quickly considering but pleasant while it lasts. Soap lathers very nicely and provides good cushion and slickness. Soap needs very little water to get it going; I use a bowl to build the lather and it was certainly needed today. A few drops of water as you are going along and it builds very nicely. All and all the soap was very nice and the post-shave feel was good also.

The only detractor would be that the container is much smaller than most of us here are use to. Today's brush was an AP Shave Co - 24mm Silksmoke w/ Blue Lagoon Handle and it just fit into the tub to load...I have spoken to the artisan (no, I am not affiliated in any way) and he is considering a larger container for the next batch of soaps.

All and all a very nice three pass shave and though I wasn't chasing BBS, that is indeed what I ended up with.

Outlaw Refinery can be found on Etsy for anyone looking and $15 Cdn plus shipping. Enjoy...

Happy Friday and Shaves!

Attached are pics so you can see the ingredients.

Great review and pics, @Somnos!! Now you're making this very tempting (Christmas Dinner, et al). The container looks similar in size to the Wild West containers which makes loading the brush somewhat challenging.

Thanks @Grundi it is a wee tub for sure but the fellow is strongly considering getting bigger tubs for his next soapy adventure. It is a very cherry forward scent but it opens up subtly as you progress through your shave and the cherry becomes less intense. Little more tobacco or wood spice would be nice but I will be enjoying it at Christmas for sure. A matching balm would make it a killer Christmas/Holiday addition.
