What's new

Ouch!

Cut my bottom lip this morning for the first time ever (been shaving a little over a year) and it was a painful, bloody mess! I guess I just lost focus and made a mistake... What do you recommend I keep close to my shave supplies in case something like this happens again? I had blood running down my chin into my lathered face and didn't really have anything to stop it (other than t.p.).

Either an Alum block, or styptic pencil. I cut myself so bad under my nose, that neither of them actually stopped the bleeding. Lots of pressure and liquid bandages eventually did the trick

About 2 months I using my 34c in the shower to you know - lol - it slipped and dropped on the outside of my right foot. It sliced about a 1" cut flapping skin and all. If someone walked into my bathroom it would have been mistaken as a murder scene from Dexter.

Anyways it required 3 butterfly bandages, gauze and a little over a week for it to close up.

For my face I dab nicks with alcohol, dry, then petroleum jelly followed by TP.

For Deerock I would definitely recommend keeping a styptic pencil around to stop the more serious cuts. Alum blocks are really only good for weepers. For Tmurzz, I suspect the styptic pencil would not have been quite enough... :)

Pick up a 99 cent styptic pencil from the pharmacy. It will hurt 10x more than the cut its self. You will subconsciously fear the styptic enough to improve your shaving technique.

Worst cut I ever got shaving my face was when I got my kneecap... bled all over for a while... last time I skimmed an R41 with three blades

Sheesh! That reminds me of the time I decided to change the blade in my Tech while my hands were wet and I had some soap on them. About the time the handle started to turn and the cap got loose the whole thing pivoted and proceeded to fillet my left thumb before nose diving down and going deep! I too was thinking it was like a scene right out of Dexter! Bandages were doing nothing for me (I really should have gotten it stitched up). In the end it took a couple weeks to knit up and during that time I was rocking a paper towel folded over my thumb and duct tape!

Amen! As to the above injury, if it wasn't hurting enough I stupidly lifted the wound open and jammed my styptic pen into it. Big. Mistake. If I hadn't subconsciously feared the styptic before, I now have a very healthy fear of it now!

I have not had a big accident yet. I do have minor cuts from time to time. I don't have a stiptic pencil, don't need one.
Speick aftershave.
Speicks formulation includes witch hazel, lavender water, alum, camphor and menthol to tone and heal the skin.
One coat on a good day, two on a bad day, the germans have this all figured out.

Black pepper will stop bleeding immediately. I use it when alum doesn't stop it. It's an amazing thing to see.

Styptic pencil is more effective.. myself I've only really cut myself on my chin.... never really feel in danger of cutting anything else.

I do this too but mainly on my hands if I have a mishap at work.
The pepper coagulates the blood super quick creating a bandage.
I might add I only use the pre-ground stuff not fresh from the mill.

I meant to say black pepper works when all else fails, including styptic, alum, alcohol, pressure, ice,... whatever. Styptic hasn't always worked for me on bad cuts.
