Oster Classic 76 Hair Clippers

Anyone used these things? My cheap hair clippers are crapping out and I heard the Oster Classic 76 is the industry standard, most powerful and longest lasting hair clippers you can get. They sounded A LOT more powerful and heavy than the Andis Ceramic BGRC's which is a good thing for me. I'm about to pull the plug and order due to the reviews I have read. Any comments or suggestions?

They're everything you've heard. I bought a pair for my limited, umm, trimming duties. Complete overkill, I know, but I my AD runs deep. You'll probably need to buy an additional blade, as the one included cuts extremely short.

My hairstylist sister said if I wanted to buy a great pair of clippers that would last a lifetime, buy the 76. I would, but right now can't justify the cost. However I must say that her Wahl Designer has held up well for over five years of shop use and was much, much cheaper. I would wager that for a single user they too would probably last a lifetime.

Ditto. If you can "justify" the cost of an Oster, there's probably not a better set of clippers out there - that i've tried, at least. Bearing in mind I only shave my head when it's hot now rather than all year round, they're simply too much for me. Any decent Wahl, looked after, is good enough and will last long enough for my needs.

I would add that if you're going to drop the coin on them, get a bottle of the Wahl cleaning spray and some extra oil as well and look after them. Clogged and dirty clippers never cut well and this is why 90% of clippers die out before they're due, not to mention the huge improvement in hygeine.

Treat yourself and enjoy them, I say!

Thanks guys, I bought them on Amazon $106 free shipping and got the 10 comb guide attachments for another $20. Hoping they are as good as they sound, I'm sure they are. I think I will take your suggestion JDE and get some spray or something at Sally's, I definitely want them to last!

Received them Monday. Wow, these hair clippers are definitely worth the the $100 investment. Super high quality, great powerful motor and puts my 20 dollar ones to shame. Now I know why they are the number one barber clippers ever.

from my personal experience (been cutting my own hair for the last 5 years), stay away from the conair and wahl products you find in the drug stores. they are pretty junky, don't cut thicker hair well, and dont stay sharp for long.

my most recent set is from Oster Classic 76 and i've been pretty happy with it, had it for 2 years now and still performs well, you can find their products on Amazon online shop. There is a good review about Oster Classic 76 hair clipper here , good luck!

The Oster Classic 76 , Model 10 and Classic 97 can be rebuilt easily, and will last a lifetime.Generally, all you will need to do is maintain the clipper, usually with replacement of the brushes (every 5-7 years for me) and the cords (3 in 35 years for me)....When you get your blades sharpened look for a pro that will use a "disc sharpener" ,it's the best technique for clipper blade sharpening...

I have an Oster Classic 76 on the way (along with an Oster 00000 blade). What maintenance products are essential? Here's what I figure:

- 4oz blade lube
- 1.25 oz clipper grease (one video says to grease under the front plate cover twice a year)

This clipper will be used a couple times a week, one head, so I don't think I will need the disinfectant. Or would I?

I was thinking the 76 will come with a small tube of oil.

Someone wrote: "...you must also learn to adjust the blade in the blade housing. If you "pinch" the skin ,you have the blade too high up to the guard teeth and you must EVENLY lower it to the point where it
cuts smoothly ,but without pinching."

What does this mean?

You will need disinfectant spray (do not inhale) and a can of "blade wash"....To wash the blade ,you can leave the clipper running and flush the blade in a small container of blade wash, which you will toss out afterwards. For heavier duty cleaning, you need to disassemble the blade with a Phillips head, and using gloves, hand wash all parts, dry, reassemble, then lube while clipper is running, don't skimp on the oil,4 oz. is about $2....When reassembling the blade, you must line everything up to perfection.Leaving the blade to low on the guard will result in too long hair and inferior cutting.Leaving too much exposure will cut better, but will pinch the skin enough to draw blood. The trick is to get that blade just past the point of skin pinching, which you will notice as you shave the back of your neck.Right past the pinch zone is optimum for blade exposure......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRqjNrTm8A8 .......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA_MsgENSqw

I'm going to try and get by without blade disassembly. Do I really need to disinfect if I'm the only one using the clippers?
