Well, the consensus from a lot of people is that Osage is great if you like menthol, but the Veg can be AWFUL if you are not chosen. I would err on the side of not smelling like cat urine (YMMV) and go with Osage. You can probably find a sample from someone on this board as well.

I KNOW I'd love Osage, but ya know...gotta try the Veg.

They are, however, VERY different products. Osage is a bracing splash of medicinal goodness, but not necessarily an all day scent. The Veg starts out strong, but fades to a vanilla, anise note that sticks around. Why limit yourself to only one?

I would buy the Osage in a full bottle, but just buy a sample of the Veg.
The Veg is truly disgusting stuff, and you don't want to be stuck with a full bottle of it!! My parent's house has several lilac bushes, and the Veg neither remotely smells like lilac, nor does it in any way smell pleasant.
You can buy a 1/4oz sample of the Veg from Gary's Sample Shop for $1.50:

Seems like the Veg is a risk. Osage is a big favorite, and I know it must be awesome.

Both are great IMO, but not for everyone.
Get a full bottle of Osage, and a sample of the Veg. It worked for me, I only threw out half of my Veg sample...
I've spent 50 bucks on samples from Garry's and have been happy with the service, but so far I've only found two that I'll buy in full bottles, being Catalyst, and Florida Water. They are quite different from each other, kind of on opposite ends of the intensity scale.

I too only bought a sample of the Veg because of half of the people on the forum hate it. Now I wish I would have bought a 12 oz bottle because they were dead wrong. The smell may initially be a a bit strong, but it mellows very quickly to a very complex lilac and powder smell. For some reason there are scents in the Veg that some people cannot smell the way it was intended to smell, and they detect it as a "cat ****" or "urinal cake". One wonders why someone would be so familiar with those scents...

Even I, who love the Veg, understand the urinal thing when smelled in the bottle and even at initial application, within about ten minutes it changes to something very different.
Everyone talks about the scent of the Veg ( which I like). But what I love about it is how great it makes my face feel.
I use the Osage regularly, but have never tried the Veg. Both are cheap enough to gamble on.

If you like the smell of Vicks Vaporub, my vote is get a bottle of the Osage.
