What's new

Ordered My First Pair of Allen Edmonds Tonight!

Thanks to the Shoe Bank, I ordered a pair of Bayfields this evening. While I'm a bit nervous about the fit, I am excited for them to get here.

I tried on the Strands at Nordstrom a while back which is the five last. Shirley, the woman I spoke to on the phone, said the Bayfield are made on the one last, and said I should order the same size I would in the five.

If they don't work out, I'll probably ship them back and try a different size. I've been wanting a decent pair of boots for the fall and winter when it's not too sloppy outside, and I like that these have a rubber sole and are versatile enough to be worn with about anything besides a suit. I really like the Daltons, but know I would shy away from wearing the leather soles unless the weather was perfect.

I'll be sure to post a few pictures in case anyone else is thinking of picking up a pair. I got mine for $167 shipped.

The last time they were on sale I picked up a pair of Bayfields. They are great and versatile. They can look good in cruddy weather with a suit and in jeans.

I have a brown pair.....I read somewhere that they were used in the Titanic movie because of that old look.
I don't know if that's true. Great shoe/boot though.

that is better than the Lands End sale price - and that was a good price!

Congrats and well played, sir!

I ordered two pair from Allen Edmonds direct last week, the Dalton and the Fifth Street, both high top dress boots. They had a good sale going on. and I caught it the day before it ended.

I was really attempted to order the Big Sky, which looks like a cross between a house slipper and a driving moccasin. They were only $59, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I have a similar pair, so didn't feel like it made sense to have another.

What is the shoe bank?

It's an outlet type store connected to their factory in Wisconsin. They sell factory seconds and closeout models, and it sounds like they do quite a bit of business over the phone.

You can email them, give them your size, and ask for a list of what they currently have in stock. They're very prompt, and send you a list of all the models in your size, with color, pricing info, the number of pairs, etc. You can then order over the phone. I've read that you can ask the sales associate to check out the specific pair of shoes they will be sending you, and describe the defect that makes them seconds. While I've heard of a few unsatisfied customers, the majority of people seem to be pretty happy.

Another nice aspect that I wasn't aware of: the price they give you includes taxes, and shipping is free. It was a pleasant surprise to check my bank account and see that no taxes or anything extra was added.

Is there a website, email, phone number for this outlet?

I got these on the 18th, but just now got some pictures. I've worn them a couple times, and am surprised by how comfortable they are. They did have a couple small scuffs out of the box, but nothing that a quick polish won't fix. I ordered some of the recommended Aqua Shoe Care cream and some edge dressing, so I'll get spruced up here in a few days.

Excellent shoes, I just got mine a week or so ago and have been wearing them in the rain (read hurricane Sandy) with a suit.

They look fine with a suit in my opinion. The sole is thicker, but far from offensive. Like you, I was very surprised by the comfort of the shoe.

The Bayfields were my first AE boot (I've got a few regular dress shoes) but I think I will be adding some more boots to my collection.

Is the Bayfield a discontinued model? I'd love a pair, but they don't seem to be on the AE website...

They are discontinued. If you contact the shoe bank they may have a few pairs left.

On a side note, the heels on mine are separating from the soles. I just sent out an email to the shoe bank, and they will be going back shortly.
