Open comb

The difference is not that great vs a close comb razor. I would say the open comb picks up the lather with the blade instead of the guard (close comb). If you have angle issues, you will see it right away with it as you will see the teeth marks in the lather!

Other then that, you would use it like any other razor!

More blade exposure and more aggressive but that doesn't mean your going to cut yourself to pieces. I think open combs give closer shaves then razors with full guards.

I think you have to qualify the answer by defining which series open comb you're talking about. If you compare an Old Type or New Improved to a 1949 Super Speed you are absolutely correct. However starting in 1934 with the Aristocrat one piece and continuing with the open comb Senator and Sheraton it is not so easy to compare to a flat guard razor. I find these later open comb razors are very smooth and may even be less aggressive then a late 50's Super Speed. When I want the smoothest shave, I reach for the 34-40 Aristocrat or the English #15.

The aggressivity is defined by the blade gap. There are very very mild open combs (Goodfella) or super aggressives one (Muhle R89 old model, not the new).

I don't believe open comb means closer shave myself. Open comb, closed comb examples(slant/clog pruf), or safety bar, it depends if the razor is right for you.
