One pass?

How many find that one pass is ordinarily enough? I have alight beard, and usually i do just one pass whith some clean up. Today I did two passes, one with the grain and one across. It's noticably closer, but not necessary. Thoughts?

I can't even begin to think of doing a one pass. I have a very coarse beard AND sensitive skin. I have to attack my beard using multiple passes with multiple angles using multiple settings on my Fatboy. Two pass shave...OK. That I could probably get away with. Even with the multi-pass/multi-angle shave I still need to use special techniques.

WTG - Standard
XTG - Gillette slide with mild buffing (don't try this at home kids)
ATG - Blade buffing

I can get by with a single pass but usually do at least 2 just to get rid of the lather I prepare. Two passes gives me a very good shave.

There are days when I could get away with one pass and some clean-up, but I have all that beautiful lather waiting . . .

I wouldn't describe my beard as light, but one pass with the grain across all the face, and a pass across the grain in the area directly under the sides of my cheek bone, are all I need with a DE razor. Depending on which razor/blade/soap combination I've used, such a shave is on par or better than a single pass with the grain from four or five bladed cartridge razors, and much closer than that from an electric razor.

With DE it takes 32 to 36 hours for my beard to grow to where it would grow in 24 hours after my typical electric shave.

Thus I can't see the point of doing four passes when one and a half will do.
Regards,
Renato

I think this probably depends on your beard, it's length and your razor. With an aggressive razor one pass is pretty good. I have to at least do more on my neck though unless I want razor burn.

I have a fairly light beard, so I can manage with just a single pass. Or, I could shave every other day which is what I usually do. In that case I will do a two-pass (WTG + XTG). I've never had any need for more than 2 passes.

Feather AC with Super-Pro blades will let me get away with a one-pass for about 12 hours - wouldn't take me into the evening.

If shaving was that enjoyable -well - we'd be shaving three or four or more times a day.
But we don't.

What makes you think folks aren't shaving multiple times a day? Also I'd have no problem shaving multiple times a day except for one little thing. That darn nordic heritage/blond hair pale skin of mine. I don't get exactly what you'd call a full beard.

Oh well, if folks are shaving three or four or more times a day for the sheer pleasure of it, I guess they could just as well do 10 or 12 passes in every shave - possibly aligning them with the cardinal and sub points of the compass.

If they want to spend three or four hours shaving every day, that's fine too - but let's face it, it is akin to mowing one's lawn with several passes for no apparent reason. Though, now that I think about it, we used to have a neighbour who mowed his front and back lawn every day.
Cheers,
Renato

I can get to SAS in one pass every time, as long as I'm using a reasonable efficient razor. I just can't stop there, though :). Two passes is the minimum for me to walk out the door, and it only takes a minute longer to do so.

I have the proverbial 'coarse beard and sensitive skin' like everyone else, but could get by with one pass if I had to, but I don't have to! There's usually plenty of time and shaving cream for another pass-----it's only a couple extra minutes. I'll usually do it even if I don't think it's needed, usually going at it from a different angle to make it even closer, at least on my face.

I can only really take 2 (3 really is a maximum.) and small clean up of areas that remain, fortunately it's usually enough (sometimes 1 is, not often, and as others have said, even if it is, just one more...just because!). But if my skin could take it, I would carry on... Lovely lather :001_smile!!!!!

I never do more that one pass and my beard is neither particularly light or heavy (pretty much average). I generally get BBS so one pass is clearly all I need. I really don't see any reason why it more should be required.

I have been doing a single pass lately because I prefer the look. On occasion I will do a three pass shave. A lot of these gents are probably getting by on 1-2 passes for a BBS shave due to superior technique. Even my 3 pass isn't exactly BBS

Not for me, I usually aim for a CCS, but if I get a DFS it's a bonus (Though I don't really know what the actual difference is between the two...:001_smile), as long as it's clean and even...

On the weekends and days I work from home (have a little more time) I prefer a triple pass shave!

Any other day I do a double pass. :)

I need 3 passes + cleanup. Some have suggested that I have a mild case of lycanthtopy. :blushing:

Before straights and traditional DEs I got my 5 o'clock shadow about 11:15 am. :crying:

Sometimes to me shaving seems like trying to cut steel wool with a table knife. :confused1
