Omega x Semogue

Both are great, but I find the 31064 a lot softer...almost floppy. I wouldn't want to get rid of either one, but for soaps I like the 830 a little more.

I use a 31064 with Tabac soap for every shave. If you want
the brush to be floppy, soak all bristles. If you want it firm, soak a little
less than half the bristles.

I vote for Semogue 830. Excellent soap brush that rivals premium badger brushes.

I have an omega, and it is a great brush...but I feel the Semogue have a higher built quality.

Or is it better to buy the Omega Pro 49 or 48 are $ 12 cheaper?

I've owned 5 or 6 of the cheaper Omega boar's and the 31064 is different. It has a solid handle and the bristles are thicker. The brush performs great after a handful of uses, unlike most boar that need a lot of breaking in. As with all things shave related YMMV.

You will not find the answer to your question about these brushes until you have used them. Just as I find the 31064 to be the only brush I'll ever need others will not have the same feeling. Omega and Semogue make great brushes so you can't go wrong, no matter which one you choose.

There you go; this is the right answer! When you really want to know get both or just choose one on the flip of a coin. They will do their job and so will the cheaper Omegas; all a bit different but all up to the job.

The Pro 48/49 have a larger knot and loft(~25/60mm). I prefer the smaller size of the Semogue 1305/1800 or the Omega/Marvey 3005(~22/55). Like previously mentioned ymmv. You could buy the Omega/Marvey ~10.00 less than the Semogues

Absolutely, there is only one way to find out..:001_smile

The 830 is an all round better brush than the 31064 ; build quality and better with soaps.

If you want a bigger brush; the same applies to the Semogue 2000 vs the Omega 49. The feel of these brushes in the hand is night & day different. There lathering capabilities are equal.

Thank you. If Semogue will be 830. Omega Pro 49. I'm still researching if I should get $ 14.55 more for Semogue.

Omega 49 USD 14.45
Semogue 830 USD 29

If you get the 49 instead of the 2000, you will have change left to get the Semogue 620 as well. Then you will has three different brushes.

I've had the Omega 49, 31064, and the Semogue. I sold the Semogue, still have the Omegas. The Semogue was too stiff for my liking. Also, a little small in the handle.

For me, the 31064 gets floppy only if you soak it for 20 mins or so. Soak it while you grab a quick shower and there's plenty of backbone.

interesting...because my experience is just the reverse. my first boar was an omega 49 and even after break-in it felt like i was lathering with straw. the semogue 1305 is smaller and I think a bit stiffer...but the knot feels like a higher quality bristle and i like both the feel and size of the semogue's lacquered wood handle as compared to the ABS plastic handle of the omega.

my 1305 is still breaking in, but I don't expect the omega 49 to be getting much action. i think the semogue is a better brush.

I could swear I responded to this.

I have both and have used each one time. Perhaps I should make a go at it and compare the two side by side as I've been meaning to for some time now.

I got my Omegas from Gary at shoeboxshaveshop. He's the only vendor that has most selection of brushes be it boar or badger. He's actually having a sale on several brushes including the 31064! Outstanding customer service my friend. Trust!

The 31020/31025/31064 are generally same specs. The 31025 has shorter base by 1 mm

Loft-wise 31020 is 62, 31025 at 60 and 31064 is 59 at least mine anyway.

In my experience having used several Omegas ranging from 21047, 40033, 50068, 10275, 31064, 81054 ( 31054 ), 81056 ( 31056 ), 80257 and God knows how many more that need to be included in rotation have great backbone-they aren't flaccid. They have exceptional exfoliating properties, tips are scrubby not prickly but again keep in mind it varies as there are no two brushes alike.

As much as I hate talking about price the value for Omega is great in my opinion. Sure not all have aesthetic values desired but I'm more function over fashion in general. These are really well crafted brushes. Craftsmanship, performance and aggressive prices. What more can you ask for mate?

Also don't know what brushes you have or how soon you need one, but I generally get my packages from Gary within 3 days ( I'm in west coast ) while Semogue would get to me nearly 2 weeks. That's something to think about. Plus the price of 830 is greater than that of Omega 31064.

Now I know I may not be qualified to give you advice on both Omega 31064 and Semogue 830 but have several pictures of all Omegas I've used with creams and soap and you can judge from there. I haven't posted them because I don't stay long enough with brush as I rotate.

Ideally I do about 14 shaves before making reviewing them but that takes forever despite of my having to shave every 2 days and thus resorted to posting my initial impressions instead. Further to maximize one's shave as well as speed break-in process I figured I use 2 brushes side by side.
