Omega lanolin?

Does Omega have lanolin in it or no? I see here and there on the internet where it lists lanolin as an ingredient, and some places that don't. The tube I have doesn't say lanolin anywhere on it(that I can tell.) I presume at some point they changed their formula? Great cream either way, but its got my curiosity at the moment.

i believe they have removed the lanolin now. i bought a tub early last year, it listed lanolin. bought another late last year, and this newer tub did NOT have lanolin listed in ingredients.
much to my chagrinolin.

I believe it was changed and newest stock has no lanolin. There is a chance some vendors may have the older version with lanolin. Only way to find out is ask if lanolin Omega is what you're after.

but what is lanolin, what makes it so special...??

it's another animal fat specifically an oily secretion from sheep that helps keep their wool cold and moisture proof. like beef tallow, lanolin has been used for many decades as a primary ingredient in shaving soap and cream.

wikpedia and google can be your shaving friends.

many/most? veterans here concur that tallow and lanolin based shaving soaps provide a better shave. certainly true as a general but not absolute rule in my experience. you need to try it.

do some searching on tallow or lanolin on the forum, you won't have any problem finding enough reading to last a lifetime. g'luck!

Tallow is used in the soap base, reacted with a saponification agent to form tallowate. Lanolin is added as an emollient to an already formed soap base; lanolin is not used to form the soap base itself.

Horatio old boy, your encyclopedic knowledge never ceases to impress me.:thumbup1:

thanks for clarification, horatio. this stuff is interesting to me.

I was lucky to get 5 tubes of Omega and on the box it has lanolin listed as one of the ingredients. I don't know about the newer batches, but my boxes look a little older. I too would be interested to see a newer box picture and see the ingredients.

There's a thread somewhere on this board that lists the ingredients of the new and old Omega soap. As with the cream, the lanolin was removed from the newer formula. The older formula exactly matches - at least on paper - the current formula for Santa Maria Novella shaving cream. However, lanolin is almost dead last on a rather long list of ingredients, so one has to wonder how much effect it had to begin with.
