Omega Boar brushes

I am a real fan of the Omega 31064, 31025 and 31156 from Shoebox shave shop. I believe they are the finest, cost effective boar brushes on the market. I first purchased the 31064 ($28.89). I was so impressed with the qualiaty of the boar bristles/acryilic handles and the performance, that I purchased the 31156 and the 31025 ( $24.99 each) Once they are broken in they will rival the performance of finest quality badger brushes. If properly taken care of they will last a lifetime of use. Do not waste your money on the lower quality badgers, in my opinion the boar brushes named above beat them out in softness and perfrmance.

Shoeboxshaveshop has the best pricing and is great to deal with. They beat the Ebay pricing by quite a bit. If you want a less expensive quality boar, go with the Semogue 1305 boar brush from Shaving Essentials. ($18.00) I believe they are out of stock. But check with Chris, he may have more coming in. The 1305 boar bristle performance is just as good as the Omega 310/311 series, (slightly smaller bristle diameter) but the handles are coated wood. The handles not up to the quality of the acrylic Omega brushes. I have a 1307 in my rotation.

If you do not want to spend $18.00 then go with the many $12.00 to $15.00 Omega brushes offered by Shoeboxshaveshop. For the money they perform very well. People that try them are suprised how good they perform. (Once they are broken in) Good Shaving, Doug Rosso

If the performance of the #49 professional is any guide, I'd say any of the Omega brushes mentioned will deliver.

I had a pretty tepid opinion of boar brushes, based on using a VDH rather recently and another brand X boar ages ago. The budget priced #49 has been an eye opener for me.

It's just now breaking in after a couple weeks and it gets better and better every time I use it. :thumbup1:

Considering my first shaving brush purchase from here:

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I just saw from your other thread that you're in Canada. You can go into a Shopper's Drug Mart and purchase this Omega brush for 14.99

It's not quite as good as the 31064, but it's still very good.

Edit: Oops, just saw that you placed your order at WCS. You'll love the brush.

Was in Shoppers today and they had this one for $15. It seemed very cheap.

Also saw a Wilkinson one for $10 at London Drugs.

After reading about the 31064, I think I made a good choice. Now I just have to wait till it arrives.

Better pricing for the Omega boar brushes: When I was looking for best quality boar brushes last fall, West Coast Shaving did not carry the higher grade Omegas at that time. Shoeboxshaveshop was the only place I could find them. It appears WCS has great pricing and a good selection. Doug Rosso

That was my first boar brush. It's a decent brush for the price. Nice knot and there are a lot worse out there. The handle is light, hollow plastic. The 31064 is the better brush.

Not worth the $6. Walmart sells them for.

Yes! Yes, you did!

The 49 omega is okay. Although its a step up from the VDH it still sheds too many hairs. Does break-in nicely. IMO if you are bale to afford the more expensive omega boars purchase it.

Having tried 4 Omegas and brushes from the other well-known boar manufacturers, the 31064 is the best I've used. Mine however loses a bristle or two per shave. This doesn't seem to be a widespread problem though.

I have the $9 Omega boar from west coast shaving and it is a real value. It has shed very very little and man it will make lather from anything. I really like Omega boars!

After a couple of weeks of use, I think I can say that my Omega 49 is not a shedder. It lost two bristles in the first shave, and none after that.

I have an Omega 31064, and while it seems to be a good brush, I do find it a bit on the floppy side for my taste. I ordered a Semogue 620 a week ago, and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

I'm not sure what omega mode it is, but the old Proraso Omega brush has to be one of the best brushes on the market. Its the same one used in Mantic's face lathering segement in the part 2 of his 3-part intro series.

The tall and stiff hairs become more flexible after a few shaves, thereby providing one of the most invigorating experiences, especially when its face lathering - that's where it shines.

The biggest con for this item is the boar funk at the breaking-in period - whew! Much more intense than badger funk and twice so on Sundays.

I paid for a top shelf badger but won't again. I have a few boar from Omega and Semogue and they have been the best quality in the bristles and handle design are nice.

Mine lost a few during the first week but has settled down, now it only sheds a hair every few shaves, but I've been beating the tar out of it. I'll see if it stops now that I'm not deliberately roughing it up.

One nice thing about the #49, when it sheds one of those honking pig hairs while face lathering, you can see it right away. Badger hairs sometimes hide and seek shelter between the blade and safety bar of my razor.

I have a larger Omega brush, the 48 professional. It was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart while I was in Toronto a few months ago. It began softening up after a couple of shaves and has continued to do so over time. It is very soft, produces tons of lather, and for the money it is great value. You won't be disappointed.
