Omega 10098 Professional Brush

Can anyone give some feedback on this number? I pulled the image from Omega's site. Seems like a really big guy and Omega claims it's 100% Hog bristle! Is it soft? Good brush? Just how big and bristly is this thing and why is it a "professional"?

It is big, it will be nice & soft when broken in & will serve you well if you like a big brush & prefer bowl lathering. Enjoy.

It's an Italian barbershop staple (or so I'm told) so it has to be great. I owned one and I think it is great - the bristles are a bit big but I'm sure you don't mind a little shaving cream on your ear

It is a good brush and the handle works just fine for me. You can find reviews in the reviews section of B&B. For the price it is a very good brush (most Omegas are btw). But it is a big brush, so aimed more at bowl lathering imo.

Many have said how the Omega 10098 is more suited to bowl lathering. I am a face latherer 99.99% of the time and right now in my un-envy-worthy stable of two brushes a 50mm lofted Omega boar and the 10098 I much prefer the 10098.

It does get lather all over the place, up to my ears and sometimes even up to my nose. But I love it. Face lathering with it is like having a big St Bernard slumbering up to you and giving you a big drool laded lick! I love that! Though something tells me I might be in the minority here.

Perhaps, but I face lather too. I did that with my 10098 and my Jaguar 1071, which is even bigger  Now I use professional horse brushes, also a bit bigger than average.

Those horse hair brushes look very tempting! My only complaint with the 10098 is that despite years of storage and half a year of use it still feels prickly : ( the smaller Omega suffers from the same problem. Many of the ends have split on both brushes and every other day I religiously take a hair dryer to them, gently of course but to no avail. Definitely softer than fresh out of the box but still prickly. High time to try horse or maybe get a silver tip. Hope I didn't go OT.

Will which horse hair brushes are you using currently?

Bowl lathering, palm lathering or face lathering, once broken in this brush is Soft.

Here is a couple photos for comparison.

At the mo Vie-long barbers brushes. I have the horse/boar mixed brush, and really like it. But if you think a 10098 is prickly, it is not for you. Am waiting for an extra barbers horse brush (extra means the ends are treated extra to make them softer), will let you know if that might be something for you.

My only complaint re this brush was that it was a real stinker out of the box, took many test lathers and shampoos to lose that wet piggy smell. :001_rolle

Otherwise, as mentioned, it's a weapon of mass lather.
