Old type query

The bottom end of this razor is bothering me as you can see it looks like its not the correct one. I don't have any other reference but the threads are a poor fit and it looks like the external thread has been removed to make it fit.

What do you think?

Sorry...I don't know the right terminology.

Three pieces - Head plate , Main Body and Release knob/shaft

There seems to be a worn thread on the exterior of the release knob/shaft, it serves no purpose from what I can see so I'm assuming it does not belong.

Also the threads between head plate and release shaft only just engage with each other, they are not stripped just look like the wrong sizes.

Does it look familiar?

The parts you show appear to be of the right length and have the correct pattern. The diamond pattern should be larger at the end then the main handle tube, which it is. But the external screw pattern you show does not belong there. It should be smooth. And if the threads don't match between the cap and end knob piece then someone was playing around and using it for a purpose it was not intended. Can the razor be tightened at all?

I can but only just, I have to squeeze the cap down to get the thread's to bite.

With the correct blade and fully tightened it takes half a turn only for the cap to spring off . The male thread on the cap is worn, I have to insert it by 8 - 10 mm before it will bite.

I suppose it is usable but I'm wondering whether to return it?

The cap most likely does not match the rest of the razor if the inner barrel and the cap's post just barely meet. Perhaps it came off a New Improved. The "threads" to which you are referring on the inner barrel are probably just scratches made by particles inside the outer barrel when loosening and tightening. I have seen that pattern before on well used razors.

Out of interest, this might prove useful for other purchasers.

I find that really hard to picture. The rings start right at the tip and extend nearly the complete length of the tube. The rings are very uniform in spacing. There would have to be at least two screw threads right at the end of the handle for that to happen. There are no threads inside the handle and a burr would not make such a uniform pattern. I just find it's very curious.

As you can see fron the video the male thread is definitely worn as it only engages 2/3 of the way up the shank.

I would say that the marks along the outside of the tube are just too uniform to be anything other than something machined, I just don't know why they are there.
