Old style shaving "mugs"

Does anyone use the old style, one piece shaving mugs? They have recess on top for the soap with a "spout" on the side (presumably for brush). I've seen a few but wonder, how practical are they?

I only use the old style shaving mugs. I have one of my fathers, but I don't use it. It's more for display. I use any decorative, soup or coffee mug that is at least four to five inches in diameter and three inches tall. I like something with a substantial handle to hang onto. I also use a green rubber, Marvy unbreakable mug. It works great, even though it is a little tall. The Marvy rubber mug does not seem to hurt the brush handle if your bump the side. I prefer shorter sided mugs, so if I get in a hurry with my brushes I avoid hitting the side of the mug. I do not like bowls. I tried to use a bowl to make my shave lather/cream, but I seem to like face lathering better.

I have found some great looking mugs at thrift stores, Goodwill and St Vincent De Paul for .25 each. I have not dropped any mug since I quit shaving in the shower. Fortunately, I was using my Marvy mug and it just bounced. I think I paid around ten dollars for the Marvy mug at a local Spokane, Wa. beauty/barber supply. It was the last one they had. They informed me they were not going to restock any of the mens shaving supplies.

I think I saw some Marvy mugs at Atlanta Barber supply and Appleton Barber Supply for $10 to $12 dollars. Both of those companies also carry Clubman, Stephens and other aftershaves at great prices. I also purchased a Merkur 23C from Atlanta for $22. Doug Rosso
