Old Style handle question

I just got a Old Style with a ball handle and yes the handle is split about 3/4 of the way. It cleaned up pretty good and would like to fix it.
I have been reading alot and saw some of the fixes. What I would like to do is Fill the handle with epoxy. The handle is gold plated and I don't wast to uglify it with solder. I thought if I clamped the crack closed and then fill it with epoxy that when I unclamp it it would hold. This way I won't have to get epoxy on the edge of the crack, so no mess on the out side. Will this work?

Also I know the tech handle will fit but will a NEW ball handle work?

Got back home yesterday and tried this, the result was mixed. First off the epoxy held the ends in and closed the crack some. But the issue is the epoxy didn't hold the crack shut all the way. When I took the clamp off the gap opened some.
So the question is will hurt anything? Now I have a plastic sleeve inside and epoxy but since it didn't hold I'm guessing that water can get inside. Is this an issue?
I can put more epoxy in the crack but it is white and it will be ugly against the brass. I have no problem leaving it as it is physically strong as long as possible water in the handle isn't an issue.
