What's new

Old Spice

I have developed a recent thing for Old Spice. In my never ending search for "the right" aftershave, I've turned back to the old standard. My father used it, my grandfather used it. I've decided not to fight the family tradition.

But . . . what happened to the bottle? It's plastic! I know this may seem petty, but whiskey-tango-foxtrot, over. Is there a way to buy the old bottle somehow? I don't exactly remember, but wasn't it ceramic-ee or something?

Thanks guys!

It's not plastic, it's shatterproof!

You can find old bottles, empty and filled, on ebay.

Somehow it does feel different using the glass bottle than the plastic. It's all in your head but how can it be wrong if all those voices agree.

The bottle is plastic, and the product itself has been reformulated, and smells a little different. The original version is still sold in India, and there is a store brand available through Family Dollar which is a pretty close match to the original.

Still sold in the ceramic bottles here in the uk! i know what you mean about plastic though. off putting:frown:

I've discovered that the CVS spice aftershave smells more like the original formula old spice than the current formula, so you might want to check it out.

I agree, after searching I realized I shouldn't deny, but rather embrace it. Dominica bay rum and Old Spice it is. My finance loves it too, it reminds her of pops.

Cheaper too, less than $4...but still in a plastic bottle.

I have sniffed the new OS formula and did not like it, so I may have to sneak a sniff of the CVS formula.

If you have a Family Dollar in your area, buy the Ivy Club Spice A/S. Same as the CVS and only $1.60 a bottle.

I have completely turned my back on the reformulated Old Spice and gone completely to the Family Dollar Ivory Club  It is waaaaaaay more the right scent.

The new reformulated "classic" Old Spice aftershave is pretty bad. The Vi-Jon/Phoenix labs stuff is much better, and cheaper. Of course, Shulton made old stock that's been stored right is a real treat.

The new classic cologne isn't awful, but it's more floral and powdery than the vintage stuff. Some members claim it gets better as it sits. There is no knock-of cologne that I've found to match the Vi-Jon, although some members here really like Mama Bear's Aged Spice. I'll have to try it.

If you like the vintage Old Spice scent, the current product that comes closest to it is the Classic Body Wash, oddly enough. Makes me think those P&G reformulating clowns could do the old scent if they wanted to.

You are right on the money.

I currently use Old Spice Classic Body Wash and Vi-Jon's Ivory Club pretty much every day and they are a perfect match.
You would think that OS would be ashamed that the Dollar Store generic smells more like their product should smell than their product itself does

Anyone know what the ingredients were for the old school Old Spice?

I can't tell you the "ingredients" were (likely just alcohol and "parfum"), but these are listed as the notes of the original Shulton Old Spice released in 1937.

Top Notes
Orange, Lemon, Spices, Clary Sage, Aldehydes.

Middle Notes
Cinnamon, Carnation, Geranium, Jasmine, Heliotrope, Pimento Berry.

Base Notes
Vanilla, Musk, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Benzoin, Tonka, Ambergris

I just recently found two Shultons glass bottles at a flea market. The large bottle is about half full and I paid fifty cents, the small bottle is unused and still in the cardboard box and it cost one dollar.
