What's new

Old Spice Original from India - Very surprised, very nice. Questions inside.

Having seen comments in other sub forums about Old Spice, I ordered a tube of cream from eBay, shipped from India (it came via Hong Kong) and I've just shaved with it. I chose a mild but well proven combination for me, my DE89L and an ASCO blade.

It was remarkably good. I did three passes and then used the remaining lather in my brush for touch ups and without having to try hard, I have an extremely close and comfortable BBS shave. My wife loves the smell and I like it too so that's a double bonus.

So I'll buy more.

The packaging says that it's marketed and distributed in India but is this stuff made anywhere else? If I buy it in the UK, am I likely to get the same product?

I think I'd like some aftershave lotion to complement it - The obvious choice would be Old Spice but same question as above, if I buy it in the UK, will it be the same as I get through eBay from India? What about a cologne to suit, any suggestions?

I can't believe I'm getting excited about Old Spice, the name has always been a bit synonymous with cheap tat products used by very old men or teenagers but that's way off the mark. I like it.

I picked up some and have been pleased with it also.

Too bad it is so difficult to locate in the US

I've given up asking about shaving products in the 2 Indian markets here in town.

That doesn't help me though with whether the UK stuff is the same as sold in India..... :tongue_sm

As far as I know, there is only one factory making old spice shaving cream in India. If it says made in India it "should" be all the same.

I love the scents of these Indian Old Spice creams, and their Old Spice aftershave is more like the old stuff I splashed on in the 1960's....Cheap,even with shipping from http://www.desistores.net ....

That's really cheap, less than half the eBay price but I can't see any shipping costs there.

/edit - OK, I've checked and once you factor in postage, it's cheaper through eBay.

The Fresh Lime OS cream is very nice.
I have the Musk too, but I don't like it at all.

Would any Indian grocery markets in the area carry it?

I've ordered from eBay. I live in a small village on the east coast of England, we barely have electricity here, never mind Indian grocery shops!

Feek
As I understand it the Indian Old Spice is the only one still made with the old formula,Turkish OS used to be as well but their formulation was also changed.
I've compared "modern" OS with some early 90's vintage "real" OS and there is a difference.
So Indian OS (also love the OS lathering cream)would be your way to go but a couple of traditional/classics I also like would be Clubman,English Leather,Canoe and British Sterling.

I have ordered from Desistores before. All three Old Spice creams plus two Godrej creams delivered came to about $24. Delivery took about 2-weeks.

Cheers
