Old Gillette Double Edge Razor Info Needed, An Appology

I want to apologize to the members for breaking the rule about seeking offers for razors. I just registered yesterday and wasn't aware of the rule which is no excuse, I should have read everything carefully before posting, I can assure you all that it won't happen again.

i lurked for over a year before signing up, knew the rules, and still managed to break one and get admonished for it. It happens.

I am re-posting the pictures of the old razor, I'm still hoping someone can provide some additional information like the year of manufacture etc. Thanks to all who responded to the original post. Mrs Peel

By the way I do get called Emma Peel every once in a while, I even named my dog Emma.

Sorry I forgot to add the serial number which is 3463S and it says Sterling on the end flap, another senior moment !

Well, the razor head itself is a Gillette New Improved model, which would put its manufacture sometime during the 1920s just on that basis. The standard American New Improved serial numbers used A, B, and C-suffixed ranges throughout their run. The conventional wisdom was that the S-suffixed serial numbers were for sterling silver heads; however, I recently acquired this gold New Improved De Luxe set that also had an S serial number, so now I'm not so sure.

Regardless, I'm not aware of any good information on how to exactly line up these S-series numbers with any particular dates. The best we could probably do is guess that based on your relatively low number it was towards the earlier part of the decade than the later.

Are there no other markings anywhere on the case at all?

Thank you for the info, there are no other markings other than the ones visible in the pictures. I just looked at the pictures you posted, congratulations on your find, that is an absolutely beautiful set !!
