What's new

Okay, I got my medical Personna DE's

Like alot of you guys (and you know who you are!) I've tried several dozen blade/razor, razor/blade combinations and since I work in a medical office and I order the supplies:biggrin1: I thought "hey" why not grab a box of Personna Medical Prep Blades "for hospital use only". 100 blades for the low price of $35.49!

Cut to the chase! I have shaved with one a few times and honestly I will say that these are excellent blades, really excellent, and shave in a similar fashion to our beloved Gillette Super Stainless or Schick Super Platinum and IMHO are virtual duplicates of Astra Superior Platinum's which are alot cheaper!!!

So just to confirm what has been reported here previously, they are great blades and even greater priced. So I now have 100 and shall use them for their intended purpose-to slice tissue for pathological examination! No, belay my last! I meant slice my face or something:blink:

One of the sites linked in the first Medical Personna thread had 250 blades for 44 bucks. That comes to about 17 or 18 cents a blade. Admittedly, I don't know what shipping cost is, but even if it's 10 bucks, you're looking at only 21 cents per. That's pretty darn good.

I might be thinking of a different site, but I believe the 250 for 44 are for what the previous Medical Personna thread referred to as "Lab Personnas". The conclusion on that thread being that the Labs and the Medicals (for hospital use on the blade), were identical - except for whatever extra QC process the Medicals go through.

I used the Medical Personna in my New Improved and was very very impressed with the shave.

I would like to try out the Lab Personnas to do my own comparison.

I know YMMV and all that, but I have tried both and could tell no difference. In another thread, someone spoke to someone at Personna and was told the only difference is that the medical blades go through an extra cleaning process.

By the way, I never get more than 2 shaves out of a blade without irritation and yesterday I did my 5th shave with one of the lab blades. BBS. No irritation.

Someone here did a side by side comparison on them, and didn't notice any difference, and I think they even called the manufacturer. They said the only difference is the packaging and an extra "clean up" step or two.

I bought 200 of the medical preps just to save on shipping. Tried them out, and they felt exactly like the Red Israeli Personnas I can get for a lot less. Very nice and smooth, but nothing spectacular. I ended up selling 150 of them and am keeping 50for occasions when my Irridiums and Bleues don't behave nicely.
