What's new

OK rock hounds, what is this stone?

Just got this hone in today but I'm really not sure what it is. I know what it was advertised as but I'm not convinced they were right.

It is a pretty hard stone, not Arkansas hard more like Coticule hard. The slurry it releases is white. It's a very smooth stone too, definitely a finishing hone. Here are some pics. It measures 8 5/8 x 1 5/8 x 7/8.

Rick,
I saw that stone stone and thought about bidding on it.
From the sale pics my guess was it's a CF. The red spot on the side make me think it may still be but the top looks a little different...
The other thing that make me wonder is the hardness you said it was. CF area little soft then Arkies (at times) but usually not coti soft..
It's interesting, look forward to the save test.

I used it this evening with a slurry diluted down and 50 x strokes. Got real nice HHT and the resulting shave was very nice. A keen but yet comfortable edge. Looking at some more CF pics I'm pretty convinced this is what the stone is.

It was listed as a blue/green thuri. The fellow that listed it was not a razor nor hone guy. The price was good so I won't complain.

they are all wrong....

it is a cheap chinese imitation of a king1k water stone...... send me that so i can break it into pebbles and line my flower bed....

yep... thats what i would do with it.... no way i would take it for personal use.... nope...

Brian, I think the top pic the color was a bit skewed by the flash. The other pics were taken with out flash.

The best part of this post is picturing Brian's flower beds.

Cool looking stone. From seeing similar on the TV the other day I can confirm that it is kryptonite.

love the image of Brian dancing round his flower beds with pretty cotton gloves to protect his nails!

OK, I am sure this is a CF. I lapped both sides up to 1.5K and this is the "other" side. Even nicer looking than the previous side imo. I know I said it was like a coti in hardness but after lapping this side I'd have to admit I was wrong. Still not as hard as the Translucent but I'd say on par with the Cnat I lapped.
