oiling razor

I wouldn't think that the WD40 would go sour, but it's not really meant as a lubricant, per se. Yes it has lubricating properties when fresh, but it dries. It's more of a penetrant and water displacement media than a lubricant (and smells like a machine oil.)

Go with the baby oil or the mineral oil.

I use Abu Garcia Silcote Reel Oil. It is formulated to work in wet places (a fishing reel). It lubricates and wicks away moisture at the same time. It works.

I have a couple of recently acquired Super Speeds that were nearly locked up with gunk soaking in baby oil.

12 hours freed one, works like a charm. The other is still soaking. When I pulled it out and worked the doors, a rusty sludge came out the bottom of the handle.

hi all
i have used shave oil, don't really want anything that upsets you skin if it gets on it .

Silicone vacuum pump oil - completely inert and viscous enough to give a nice silky action. Only use on all metal razors - it can damage plastic like a Krona.

But it smells terrible!

Not to me and I only use tiny drops on the hinge points and on the adjustment points open and close the razor 10-12 times and wipe any extra off. The smell goes away over night. CLP cleans, lubes and protects from rust. Down my Grandpa used the ole Classic 3-one oil on his.

I'm probably just too close to it. M-F I run the firing range. I smell CLP about 7 hours out of the day. It's not terrible in scent, but I think I just wouldn't want to smell work during my morning ritual.
