Oh, that area under the chin!

Underneath the chin on either side the hair flares out to the side. I know what I need to do but can't seem to get either hand in position to get it properly shaved when holding a straight razor. No problem with my slant DE razor but my passion is to master the straights.

That's the primary obstacle to a BBS shave.

I've seen videos and diagrams. If I were shaving somebody else it would be a piece of cake, but I want to shave myself. I've seen threads started by shavers citing this same problem.

Any thoughts?

I put my thumb in the hollow of my cheek and pull up hard. I am then able to do a ATG swipe from the sides easily. Sorry, kind of hard to explain.
