I had the same problem whit the shaving soap.
I really like the shaving soap, the lather it creates but once i put it on my face there's a unpleasant feeling of burning that doesn't go until i finish shaving and splash some cold water on my face.
So i stopped using the shave soap, but the aftershave is really great, i won't stop using it.
I even ordered some Lime and Peppercorn bath and shampoo soap, some hand and body lotion and some deodorant and all of those are top notch products.
My girlfriend even like the Lime and Peppercorn bath soap.

Just in case it's been more than a couple of years since you tried it -- I know that John "reformulated" his recipes a couple of years ago because of other similar complaints. His current products are less stinging.

Cool Video.

I have some of the soap and it works good, but it does have a very strong bay rum smell. You can smell it just holding the un-opened box in your hand. That's not necessarily a bad thing but SWMBO doesn't like the smell of bay rum so I don't use it too often.
