Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood Aftershave Question

I am not too fond of the bay rums that I have smelled...most seem to have a strong cloves scent which is overpowering to me. I was wondering if the sandalwood in Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood Aftershave toned down the strong cloves scent ? I really want to like bay rum AS. Any Suggestions appreciated.
TIA

I don't fully remember what the clove levels in this stuff were, but I can tell you that it smelled strongly of whiskey. I would honestly never wear it if I thought there was a chance of getting pulled over.
If you're looking for something with less clove try Col. Conk's.

I use it daily (just about) and and swmbo and I agree if there are any cloves in it, it is very subtle. I think you'd like it but ymmv.

If you consider Pinaud the scent with overpowering clove smell, you're good with Ogallala. Bay Rum and Sandalwood Aftershave is my favorite of their aftershaves.

The straight Ogallala cologne lasts all day with heavy cloves.
The peppercorn and lime is wonderful without that strong clove smell.
The Sandalwood version is smooth, like vanilla. Too smooth for me, but then, when I wear it, others are the judge.

hmmm, I've heard some good things about the peppercorn and lime, too. Maybe I can find a special on a multiple purchase ? Thanx :thumbup1:

I have the Bay Rum and Sandalwood and Bay Rum, Limes, and Peppercorns both and find very little clove smell in eithe. The lime and peppercorn stings more than the sandalwood but both work very well. Of the two, I think the sandalwood is my favorite. It's very dry smelling, perfect for the winter.

Whiskey? Really? I thought it has a rather sweet scent. Not strong enough to be cloying but not too much of a sandalwoody or bay rummy scent.

Perhaps a spiced rum. It's been a while, so I can't really comment on its specifics, but I thought it smelled very alcoholic (read: boozey) and I did get confirmation from others on that.

How is the burn (and skin care) with the Ogallala BR & S?

If you aren't careful (and often even if you are) it'll light you up. The oils in it float and are typically what hits your face first, frequently conjuring something like this: :cursing:

You ever see the movie Ghost Rider? When Nicholas Cage turns into Ghost Rider and his head turns into a giant fire ball...that's how it feels at first for a couple minutes and then it settles down....I love it!

Sandalwood and the Peppercorns & Limes are very nice. I'm just about to order up another bottle of the sandalwood. I don't think either one has much of a cloves odor. The Bay Rum, to me, on the other hand does. As far as "face fire" it's on the warm side. Keep in mind "Pain is weakness leaving the body".

another case of ymmv...I have never had any of the Ogallala BR burn me...EXCEPT for the double strength now THAT is a different matter all together. I find mostly the sooth and I think it is because they have some witch hazel in them.

The limes and peppercorns stings a little, but the sandalwood doesn't burn me a bit. I read on here a while back to spend at least 20 seconds shaking it to mix the oils well, so I do that. I tried it without shaking it much and I could tell a MAJOR difference in the burn.

Seems I have read somewhere else about shaking it up, too ? Thanx for mentioning that.

The BR/S is my second favorite AS. Really great stuff. I don't find it to be particularly bad in the burn department, but definitely do recommend shaking it up before each use.
