Obenauf's

So I got a large Dark Coffee Brown Saddleback briefcase for graduation, and I'm going to be in grad school in about two weeks. I'm wondering which one of the Obenauf products would be best for me, the Oil or the Preservative?

I live in NYC now, so the winter will probably take its toll on my leather (waterproofing from snow/rain is also needed) especially since I have to walk about a mile to get to class and work. Any opinions on which one would be better for me?

I don't have any experience with the oil, but the LP is great stuff. I've used it on a pair of Katahdin boots, and it darkens it quite a bit, followed by gradual character adding lightening. It protects well, and a small amount goes a long way.

Buy the small sampler, which gives you both and the waterproof. My briefcase has a glossy finish, and so I use the oil on it; on the other hand my suitcase has a matte or "unfinished" finish, and I use the LP - which does darken it a bit.

They are great products and you'll find uses for all 3 of the products.
