What's new

Not one, not two, but THREE Yardley bowls!!!!!

I went out antiquing today and my heart about leaped out of my chest three times thinking that I had again stumbled upon the holy grail of soaps--Vintage Yardleys--only to be horribly disappointed each time. Unfortunately, two were completely empty and one has the remnants of some dried foam and a few pieces of soap. Maybe someday I'll find another, but for now, at least I won't need to buy a wooden bowl the next time I'm wanting to get some new soap. :001_smile

Has anybody else nearly done a mini-jig in the middle of an antique shop when they spotted one of these only to discover nothing remained in the bowl? I was glad nobody saw me when I found each one. That might have been a bit embarrassing. :blushing:

I found a full one as well before finding these empty ones today. At the time, I had no idea what it was and so there wasn't a mini-jig. I just figured I had found a cool wooden bowl for $5 that had soap, which might be worth trying. When I found out what I had, I was safely at home.

You should be happy to at least fail nobly. I would be willing to swear that there isn't an antique store within three counties of my house that sells anything other than Avon bottles.

+1. Seeing them and knowing that the next one might have a NOS puck in it is far better than never seeing them at all. I prefer "hope".

That's still better than me. I guess people on the coasts didn't use Yardley much back in the day, cause New York and California have yielded no Yardley products for me...
I'm kidding about the coasts not using Yardley thing of course. I just think I haven't gotten lucky with it

I was quite pleased to find a complete NOS Yardley/Wrisley set this past weekend, that had the Lavender aftershave, talc, and shaving soap. It was an amazing find.

I saw it at an antiques store about 3 months ago, but didn't know that Wrisley = Yardley. :blushing:

P.S.: A little birdie tells me it's for sale in the B/S/T. :w00t:

I see I need to be filled in on this Yardley thing, as I know absolute nothing about it.
Why is it so great to find an old, maybe used soap? Would it still be good after many years?
What is it with Yardley that makes it a holy grail?
Need enlightenment.
