What's new

Noble Otter

I've never considered this soap before but am curious about it.
How does it perform to some of the top soaps and is it kind to skin in view of all the scents offered.
As regards the scents, are they distinctive from each other. For instance, I find SV scents similar to each other, whereas Mdc are not .
Any views welcome.

Hi Roy,
Noble Otter is one of my favorites. It performs well, is easy to lather and very slick. The post shave feel on my skin is quite nice, not too moisturizing like some other artisan shaving soaps are, but just right. I don’t have sensitive skin, so I can’t comment on that.
In my opinion Noble Otter is as good as the artisans I would consider top tier: Barrister&Mann, Ariana&Evans, Declaration Grooming etc.
Grooming Dept. is on a league of its own, but Noble Otter is not that far behind, I think.
I really like their scents. I have firefighter, thé noir et vanille, rawr, hamami (now called hamam), and their recent release jasmine green tea. And I have samples of the rest except from orbit, northern elixir, and some of their newer scents.
The scents are unique and distinctive from each other. The ones I tried are not ‘cologney’. They remind me of fond memories.
Are you interested in a particular scent?

No particular scent, but trying to get away from cologne type ones.
I used to buy Meißner soaps, but difficult to get in uk. My favourite was a cross between whiskey and tobacco called Strong and Scottish....or a similar name.

I like Meißner soaps too, in particular the dark limes. They perform well, but the other scents were too strong for me. While Meißner’s scents are kind of dark, Noble Otter’s are bright. They are nicely blended, but I can still detect some of the scent notes.
For example thé noir et vanille is mainly black tea and vanilla. Firefighter is more complex, it has aquatic notes, grapefruit and sandalwood are there too. Lonestar smells of hay and herbs, but has more going on in the background. It reminds me of the summers I spent on a farm as a little kid. Hamami is saffron forward and I can actually smell wet stone or how I imagine it would smell like. Very interesting, but not my favorite.
All the soaps I have from Noble Otter are not cologne type sents. They are quite enjoyable. Maybe give the one that appeals to you the most a try 🙂

They are among the best in my opinion. I'm working on a tub of Rawr and Firefighter right now. Great in every way you would want a soap to be, IMO.

NO Lonestar is, for me, one the all-time great soap scents. Thé Noir et Vanille is also excellent. If I didn't already have so many soaps, I would like to try the Jasmine Green Tea.

I like that the scents are unique and not dupes. I got a handful last Christmas.

Orbit: Great clean scent with some synthetic menthol giving it a great lasting cooling effect.

Logbook: A woody fougere scent that I find quite pleasant.

Rawr: This is a dandelion scent, something I had not tried before. Read somewhere someone described this as the scent of "being a good dad" and I agree with this.

Neon Sun: This is a rare miss from NO for me. Soap performance is as all the others sublime, but the scent does nothing for me. Perhaps being from the earliest of the 90's I'm not getting the 80s vibe this scent is trying to evoke.

BarrBarr: Wow! My favorite barbershop scent. If only the bath soaps were imported to Europe I would shower in this.

Firefighter: This is a heavy grapefruit aquatic scent, at first I wasn't sure I liked it, but this has grown on me and is now one of my favorite aquatics.

Jack: First and only soap I have from the Card series, but a great mix of lemons and juniper berries, somehow mixing scents I normally associate with spring summer, and winter, and combining them into this pleasant all-around fresh scent that can be used all year.

In the future, I would like to try Ace, Hamami, Monoi De Tahiti, and The Noir.
The soaps are easy to lather, and so slick. I can't recall I ever had a bad shave with NO.
