So after about a month of straight shaving, today I had the full bbs shave, WTG, XTG, ATG WITHOUT any blood at all.
I've had many good shaves with my £9.99 Pakistani razor, and most nicks have been very minor, but this was the first FULL shave without ANY blood letting. I haven't had any really nasty cuts since I made a sawing motion and had a bacon slicer moment right at the start of November.
Now I have lapping film and a new set of Welsh hones the Pakistani razor takes a really good edge, but won't pass the HHT after a shave until I strop it about a hundred passes on leather. Then it will do again. I'm not sure if this is down to the notorious origins of the blade, or normal inter shave dulling. We'll see at the end of the month when I start using the new Dovo that I bought a couple of weeks ago. It is a Christmas present from my wife, so I am keeping it pristine after using it once to see how sharp it was. I had chosen one with natural pale bamboo scales, but after handling it a bit, I decided to stain it darker and finish the bare wood with teak oil. It is done now and just hardening off. After the holidays I'll get going with that one and in the mean time will practice shaving, stropping, and honing on the cheap blade.
I also bought a Koeller and Shmitz razor from a forum member in Germany the other day. I'm looking forward to making that one shave ready and trying a vintage blade.
