Use the Fat, Luke!
Hey guys,

So my moisturizer is finally running out, and I am looking to buy a new one. It was a L'Occitane after shave balm and it did wonders cor my skin. As someone who received this as a gift from my sister and knows nothing whatsoever about these types of products, can anyone recommend a similar product to soothe my face? Cheaper is better.

Thanks so much!

Best I ever had was a jar of rose-lavender cream from a Relais & Chateux Inn in South Africa. It was unbelievable.

I've tried a few others that all were lacking. My current setup comes pretty close to the precious. I do a good, healthy splash of Thayer's Rose N/A witch hazel. Let it dry down, but not completely. Then, I smear a layer of L'Occitane pure shea butter on top. It's heavy, but by morning, it's all absorbed and my beard is incredibly moisturized and ready for a great shave.

Not to mention it keeps my skin from drying out and cracking in the dry, bitter Chicago lakefront Winters.

I haven't worked my way all the way through a full tub of shea butter. However, 1 bottle of Thayer's ($10) and one tub of shea butter ($38) will easily make it through the Winter, and that's with the Thayer's doing double duty as the occasional post-shave treatment.

i must admit to using moisturizers and shaving balms for many years due to sensitive skin and i have to honestly say, although it is pricey (so always a good bet for birthdays & fathers days), you cannot do better than l'occitane. also in case you have not tried it, their shaving soap is also pretty good stuff, as long as you are not expecting much in the way of fragrance. but if a budget buy is needed, try Nivea. Hope this helps.

Cheap and very good IMHO. Corn Huskers Lotion. There are some members who don't like it for the face but I use it every day and it works great. I had tried every moisturizer around and this is the best.

Much thanks for the advice so far. Would you guys go for the LO shea butter, or would you stick with what I have? It's winter right now and the Shea butter sounds a bit thicker, which I like. I am cursed (blessed?) with a fair, delicate complexion and a heavy beard, and sometimes my current LO aftershave balm isn't quite enough to keep my skin from getting tender.

Daniel Kern moisturizer for face. Light and non-comedogenic, fragrance and dye free.

Jason 84% Aloe Vera Moisturizing Creme. I use it on my hands to keep them from cracking. Can also be used on face and body if you like.

Whatever you get, make sure it has SPF protection and is designed for faces not bodies. Body/hand moisturizers are much heavier and tend to leave the face feeling greasy.
